Fantastic turn out to our Labour Party Conference fringe. The room was packed to hear from the panel on what's happening on Carer’s Allowance right now and what more needs to happen. Carers need better financial support - those with the most intense caring roles and those able to balance paid work and care.

A good conference today on macro policy organised by @NIESRorg. Amongst nuggets, a strong pushback on focusing on the headroom figure; a firm critique of the idea that banks should be paid less for their reserves; and a feeling that the action last week means QT is over.

Today, FGF is publishing a new paper with recommendations on how government can set GBR up for long-term success. Recommendations include: 👉 Define and clearly articulate the overarching purpose of GBR – and from this, instil a strong organisational culture. 👉 Avoid political micromanagement. Ensure the new organisation has an appropriate level of operational autonomy – and aim for better, not more or less, regulation. 👉 Go with the grain of devolution.
