Ten years ago, Brexiteers turned people’s genuine grievances into bait.
Food too expensive? Blame the EU.
NHS queues? Blame foreigners.
Low wages, scarce housing and overstretched services? Blame immigration.
Their campaign films portrayed an idyllic, uncrowded and prosperous Britain, as though Europe alone was preventing us from having it.
Enough people took the bait, and the entire country was caught in the Brexit trap.
A decade later, food is dearer, trade is harder, the economy is weaker, immigration is higher and public services remain overwhelmed. The fantasy has collided with reality.
Now only 30% believe Britain was right to leave, while 59% support rejoining.
The Brexit dream is dying because people can finally see the trap.
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg said it would be different and food and clothes would be cheaper.
