What if there is no longer any real theory of politics beyond everybody whiplashing from one party to the other in the vain hope that doing so will lower prices?

"This election should teach both parties that lesson again, but it will still be hard to learn. The Democrats will resist it because it’s hard to learn anything from your own election victories. It just feels too good to win. You would think it should be obvious that this was not a public endorsement of anything about the Democratic Party: The party remains exceedingly unpopular, and its politicians didn’t even run on anything in particular in this election. Voters can’t stand the Democrats, but this election was not a referendum on the Democrats. It was a referendum on the Republicans, whom voters clearly also cannot stand."
Please read every word of this, from Yuval. "In one sense, the range of explanations is so broad, and the public rebuke so overdetermined, that it might make it hard to decide where and how to change course. But in another sense, the comprehensive character of the problem makes it easier to define: The problem is Donald Trump. And the way forward for Republicans must begin by putting Trump behind them and asking themselves what they have to offer the country in his wake." nationalreview.com/corner/an…

This *ought* to be what happens. I think it's unlikely to happen and more likely to be spun inside the party as a progressive groundswell.
With all these red state wins, the center-left wing of the Dem party will be emboldened to fend off the far left -- though how it all plays out will be a major theme in 2027-28.

NYT reports AK Dems put spoiler candidate on ballot with same name as Republican incumbent senator. Dems: "Yawn," "It's just politics," "Nothing illegal," "I don't like it but it doesn't matter," "norms, schmorms." A week later, MI Dem politician endorses GOP senate candidate. Dems: "This is the biggest outrage since the Defenestration of Prague!" "this will radicalize people!" "this Quisling should be flayed alive!" "Why has she not been turned into a pillar of salt yet?!?"

The Democrats are gonna win tomorrow, but they're so divided and headless. You've got: * Leftists who still think Palestine is everything * Angry old ladies who hate Trump but otherwise have no idea what they want * Intellectuals who are still just really really mad that Mark Zuckerberg is rich * Center-left Climate Libs who have basically just given up and think China owns the future * Weird splinter factions of woke Bluesky cancel culture people running around calling everyone anti-trans * Abundance?

Kid Rock has Bill Maher pounding on the table laughing as he tells the wild story of how Trump left him on the phone with the president of France. Kid Rock had privately told Maher the story once before. It didn’t matter. Maher still couldn’t keep it together. MAHER: “Bob, you’ve gotten to know Trump personally over the years. What’s something about him that people would be surprised to learn? Oh, you want to tell the Macron story?” KID ROCK: “The what?” MAHER: “The Macron, the golf cart story.” KID ROCK: “Oh yeah, that was funny. Yeah, we’re out golfing, and I hate speaking out of school, but this is just a fun one. And I mean, the guy’s taking calls all day. He’s working while you’re golfing. The guy does not stop working. I think we can all agree on that. He works. He sleeps like maybe four or five hours a night, right?” “So we’re out there. Macron calls. He’s like, blah, blah, blah. He’s talking. We’re on the golf cart, right? I’m standing next to his golf cart. He’s like, ‘Hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock,’ like Macron knows who I am. And he’s like, ‘Bob, say hello.’ So he gives me the phone.” “I’m like, ‘Hello, Mr. President.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m from the Paris of the Midwest, Détroit.’ And Trump leaves!” [Maher completely loses it] MAHER: “I love that!” Only Trump would hand the president of France off to Kid Rock and drive away. To this day, Macron probably still doesn’t know what the heck happened. 🤣

I've spent 25 years fighting for free speech on college campuses, so you'd think nothing could scare me anymore. You'd be wrong. In honor of Halloween coming up, here are some of the most terrifying findings from FIRE's 2027 College Free Speech Rankings.

Amy Acton ad in Ohio: Totally blew up in Vivek's face. Mary Peltola recruiting Dan Sullivan: Totally blew up in Peltola's face. Trump gerrymandering everywhere: Totally blowing up in GOPs face. Maybe the lesson here is instead of doing scumbag political trickery you just try to go win our votes on the merits!

A landmark accountability win for Jewish—and non-Jewish students alike—and a model for schools nationwide. NAVI brought a comprehensive complaint to Los Angeles schools—with detailed evidence of how teachers pushed their own political agendas in the classroom. The district then investigated and substantiated all 11 allegations of unlawful political advocacy by teachers at Canoga Park High School. The district found that teachers violated both federal and state civil rights laws when they misused their classrooms and school activities, and directed and managed student clubs to advance a one-sided and biased political agenda about Israel. The district ordered the school to take corrective action, including mandatory teacher training on keeping politics out of the classroom and preventing antisemitism, removing biased materials, and changing affected curriculum. NAVI helped make this happen. We exposed the conduct, documented it publicly, and worked with partners to obtain records and file the complaint to prompt the investigation. We also want to recognize LAUSD for conducting a thorough investigation and taking action. Public schools can—and should—be partners in upholding civil rights and ensuring students can learn free from political coercion. Now comes the next step: turning these findings into stronger policies that prevent partisan political advocacy from taking over the classroom—and using those policies to drive lasting accountability. This is NAVI’s model in action: map the problem, mobilize partners, disrupt harmful activity, and transform findings into lasting policy change.

This ad is vile. One thing that's so despicable about far-left hatred of Israel is how quickly they just glide past the fact that Israel was subject to horrific terrorist violence. One does not have to agree with all Israeli policies (I certainly don't) to know that this is a grotesque caricature.
New low for normalized Jew-hate in the American Democratic Party. Very sad: Painting your political opponents as puppets of Jews, as this El-Sayed ad does, and as crazed baby-killers and money-grubbing villains who are the root cause of every bad thing not just in the world, but in your life—from wars to the price of eggs to the reason you can’t have free healthcare—is not just low-grade Jew-hate. It’s pure Third Reich stuff, translated directly from the original German. Do you remember when Jewish Democrats in Michigan explained that they would vote for El-Sayed despite his open disdain for Jews, since there are many other important issues they need him to fight for? That anything was worth it to “defeat MAGA”? Well, here’s El-Sayed’s answer to them: Don’t worry, all those issues we agree on, like healthcare, inflation, and climate change, I’m going to make them about Jews too! I will tell the public that the Jews are the reason they can’t have those things.
