At a bar this weekend, I spoke with a random person in their young 30s. She mentioned that she and her sister-in-law have political disagreements.
I asked her which subject in particular.
She said: Israel-Palestine.
So, I asked which side she stands on.
She said she was opposed to Israel genociding Palestinians.
Trying not to give away my position, I asked: What makes you say that?
She said it was Israel killing 200,000 Palestinian children.
I told her that was interesting because Hamas's death toll, which includes fighters, sits at around 70,000. At that point, she made it clear that she wasn't interested in changing her opinion.
We have a propaganda and misinformation problem. It seems that many people have developed strong opinions based on lies. But perhaps correct information could help dispel the lies. Though, I suspect the truth doesn't matter as much as the narrative.

The last 24 hours have been ... interesting.
A vehement anti-Israel user with a medium-sized following quoted a tweet of mine. The user unleashed a wave of Holocaust denial, personal attacks, and distortions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ironically, my post was about Macron's speech and how Europeans react to a distorted view of the conflict.
1. The antisemitism and Holocaust denial in pro-Palestinian activism is real and, in my opinion, detrimental to Palestinian national ambitions.
2. If you are trying to undermine Israel, you shouldn't harass Jews and spread antisemitism, thereby confirming the need for a Jewish state.
3. If their goal is to harass Jews because they hate Jews, then their actions are consistent with their objectives.
4. The antisemitic mob proved my earlier assertion it has been spending decades trying to convince the general public that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a one-sided massacre and not a century-long struggle between two competing nationalisms.
Impressive efficiency: demonstrating complete ignorance about the Middle East and the Holocaust in one short sentence.

I’m beginning to suspect that the Europeans are reacting to an imagined version of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, not the actual conflict on the ground.
Btw, Hamas is absolutely operating in Judea and Samaria (West Bank).
President Macron is repeating Hamas talking points at the UN and claiming Hamas never operated in the West Bank.
That is either ignorance or a rewrite of history meant to isolate Israel. Hamas has murdered Jews in Judea and Samaria for years. Saying it never happened there is not a slip. It is a lie.

The first part was sarcastic. For decades, Europe has been reacting to an imagined version of the conflict.
And it seems that there’s a battle over Macron’s wording/translation. A native French speaker says the translation is accurate. So either Paris is trying to portray an imagined version of its own speech or it’s weirdly attempting to downplay Hamas’s power in the West Bank.
Problem for them is that sévir in French doesn’t mean to rule but to operate …. Their defense is in itself an accusation (and yes I’m a native French speaker)

The reporter dropped an erroneous malicious story about an observant Jew on Yom Kippur.
Either he reached out on the holiday when he knew that Milstein wasn't checking his phone, or he was so ignorant of the subject's customs that he didn't know Milstein wouldn't respond.

The anti-Israel crowd has spent decades trying to convince the general public that there is no Israeli-Palestinian conflict, that it’s a one-sided massacre.
They’ve erased or lied about 100+ years of Arab attempts to rid the Holy Land of Jews. Though Sheeran regurgitated the false narrative of Israel retaliating disproportionately after 10/7, he recognized that it’s a two-sided conflict and that a musician’s job is not to take sides, particularly when you are not informed on the topic.
Most people, besides Russian shills, don’t see Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as a two-sided conflict.
Perhaps the fact that Hamas’s opening onslaught killed hundreds of music lovers at a music festival resonated with him.

What a staggering statement to make.
The Holocaust was the genocide of six million Jewish men, women and children. The Jewish population has still not recovered to pre-Holocaust levels.
It’s a damning indictment of Macklemore and so many others who seem unable to discuss the Israel-Hamas war without invoking the Holocaust.
