“First they came for the right wing, and I did not speak out—because I was not right wing…” Aww, are they coming for you now? Terrible, isn’t it? 😢 Say hello to our lot in there, won’t you.

Enthusiastic yes for the right to protest. Hard no to those expressing support or “solidarity” for a democratically proscribed organisation. I strongly reject the premise of breaching a military base for protest. It’s never a legitimate cause. Damaging RAF planes is an extremist action, and a threat to national security. If you honestly believe this protest trumps national security, what about defence of the nation? It’s a clear attack on civil defence. Don’t cower under the protection of Gandhi. Don’t invoke the name and language of a banned extremist organisation. It’s intentionally provocative and unnecessary to your supposed cause. There needs to be more nuance, balance and a willingness to listen. You need to find a way forward that brings people with you.

Meanwhile the UK gov enables genocide by allowing arms exports to Israel and speaks not a word about the companies profiting from the tech-enabled industrialised mass slaughter of Palestinian children. We know who the real terrorists are, and its not these brave people

‘The were sitting by the statue of Gandhi, holding home-made signs saying: I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.’ That’s it. Arrested! If our country doesn’t make a stand against authoritarian moves like this, it will deserve every rotten thing that’s coming its way.

Thank you. This Govt Bill and police action are unconscionable. On the day David Lammy poses with a real ISIS terrorist, shaking his hand

The people arresting octogenarian priests for the crime of holding a sign are definitely on the correct side of history. Well done Met police, keep up the great work.

Labour have put themselves in the position where if 500 or a 1000 people marched in support of Palestine Action they'll have to be arrested and charged. If they don't, they'll look weak and bet set upon by the Tories and Reform. The process to go on an on with enough supporters.

Good, lock them all up, make an example of them. And fine them the £50 million damage to a military aircraft.

While it is the duty of the authorities to uphold the law and to prevent support for proscribed organisations, it is equally vital to ensure that the right to protest and to express political or moral convictions is not unjustly criminalised. The symbolism of this arrest taking place beneath Gandhi a global icon of peaceful resistance cannot be ignored. Britain has a long tradition of dissent, debate, and peaceful protest. Suppressing such acts risks undermining the very democratic values the country seeks to protect. It is crucial that the allegations are examined fairly and transparently, and that the line between legitimate expression and illegal activity is clearly and justly drawn. This incident should prompt reflection: Are we, in our efforts to maintain security, eroding the fundamental freedoms that define us? True strength lies in allowing even uncomfortable voices to be heard provided they do not incite violence and in upholding justice with fairness and integrity.

The police in this country are pathetic- arresting people for speech is beyond ridiculous. I truly hope some of them at least feel ashamed, but I doubt that somehow.
