Happy Birthday to the United States Air Force! From Keesler on the Gulf Coast to Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi has a proud connection to the Air Force and the men and women who serve our country. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice, here at home and around the world.

It was an honor to visit with the National Guard’s emerging leaders this afternoon discussing the responsibility that comes with leadership and the impact good leaders can have on those around them. We should all be beyond grateful for these men and women and for the sacrifices they and their families make to serve our state and our country.

As I woke this morning, I remembered the nearly 3,000 lives who never saw September 12, and the hundreds of first responders and survivors who continue to battle cancer because they answered the call to help their fellow citizens. We are proud to be an American.

Twenty-five years ago, our world stopped turning as we watched an unbelievable tragedy unfold in New York. 2,977 lives that will never be forgotten. The resilience of the American people shown in the days following 9/11 demonstrated the unbreakable spirit of our nation and our support for our brethren in times of heartache. It changed our country forever. We will never forget.

A family and community in Claiborne County are mourning the loss of Deputy Bailey. It is beyond belief that someone would target the people who dedicate their lives to protecting others. We pray for peace for Deputy Bailey’s family and protection for our law enforcement officers. May those responsible face full justice.

From our farms and factories to our small businesses and communities, Mississippi is stronger because of the people who work hard and take pride in what they do. Happy Labor Day!

Another example of how being 50th is in the rear view mirror!

Effective today, Senator Juan Barnett has submitted his resignation from the Mississippi Senate. Senator Barnett has faithfully served the constituents of District 34 since 2016. Throughout his tenure, he has been a dedicated public servant and a respected member of the Mississippi Senate, particularly through his work on corrections matters. We thank Senator Barnett for his years of service to the State of Mississippi and wish him a happy and well-deserved retirement.

21 years ago Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast in a way that will never be forgotten. How the Coast has rebuilt is nothing short of inspiring. Through the perseverance and spirit of so many, it has rebuilt, thrived and grown stronger than ever before. May the memory of the lives lost never dim, and may we always be eternally grateful for those who committed their lives to restoration.

Mississippi lost a friend. The country lost an icon who loved each person upon whom she was able to have a positive effect. Millions were touched by her life, including so many children who can now read. Songs written from her life and sung from her heart. A life example for each of us.

I strongly support American beef and our Mississippi cattle farmers. Importing more foreign beef at a lower rate is not the way to significantly lower prices for Mississippi families. We need to focus on lowering the costs our ranchers face to raise their cattle and get their product to market. If we want to make beef more affordable, we need to support the farmers and ranchers who produce it. Choose U.S. beef.

Great to welcome Miss Mississippi's Teen Madalyn Sullivan to the Senate yesterday. We talked about her work with Millie’s Mission, which she started to promote autism acceptance and inclusivity, inspired by her little sister. Madalyn is doing a great job representing Mississippi and making a difference beyond her duties as Miss Mississippi Teen.

Too many Mississippians find themselves the victims of cybercrime. That’s why I’ve created a Senate Select Committee on Cybersecurity to review the state’s information systems and how we prosecute those who commit cybercrimes. Criminals are using technology to steal identities, target state assets, and exploit vulnerable individuals. We have a responsibility to ensure our laws keep pace with these evolving threats and provide law enforcement with the tools needed to protect Mississippians. Mississippi's Coast is one of our state's greatest assets, and the U.S. Coast Guard plays a vital role in protecting our people, ports, and tourism economy.
