🚨 A New Reality for Physical Games🚨
There’s a lot changing behind the scenes in the video game industry right now — things customers don’t always see.
We don’t want to create FOMO or tell anyone they need to rush out and buy everything. But we do want to give you a heads-up about the reality of physical games today.
If there’s a new game you know you want physically, we highly recommend preordering it.
Print runs for many titles are becoming smaller, and we’re seeing more and more games sell out at launch. Unfortunately, getting additional copies afterward isn’t always as simple as placing another order.
And here’s the part that’s becoming increasingly important:
A preorder does not always guarantee a copy anymore.
Allocations can be cut, production quantities can change, and sometimes there simply aren’t enough copies manufactured to meet demand.
Restocks are also becoming more difficult and, in some cases, more expensive. Smaller reprint quantities, higher manufacturing costs and other industry changes can mean that a game that originally retailed for
$X may come back at a higher cost — or may not come back at all.
This is a very different physical game market than the one we’ve been used to.
We’ll continue doing everything we can to track down games, secure additional stock, pursue reprints and keep physical games available for as long as we possibly can.
We just want our customers to be aware of the changing landscape.
If you really want a game physically, preordering is becoming more important than ever. 💿
It’s a new world for physical games. We’re adapting — and we’ll keep fighting to keep them on shelves.
