without a doubt even though theyre not perfect, theyre already a huge net positive to safety on the roads and this is the most unsafe they will be

I’d argue Waymo blocking traffic and emergency vehicles could have indirectly resulted in a death or two, but I agree with the sentiment. AV’s save lives and anyone slowing the scale has blood on their hands.

im certainly not making the argument either service is perfect, but everyting pales in comparison to the fatality line

Not trusting Waymo. Too many scenarios where it goes against traffic, blocks other vehicles. It does a lot of rides well but you don't want to be in it when it screws up.

the screw ups have largely been very minor id much rather have another waymo on the road rather than a drunk driver

Those whose livelihoods, fortunes, and positions depend on the status quo have always been willing to kill to protect it.

People die. Life has risks. I will not give up any speck of liberty/individual freedom for any amount of safety. You have been programmed by the left to believe we should give up everything if we could save one life. HELL NO!

Yes, but the day will come when the pendulum swings to other side in the name of safety: -Insurance becomes prohibitively expensive for the privaledge of driving -Driving a car becomes like owning & riding a horse. A luxury for those with money/large private acreage, or both

The propaganda of the fossil-fuel automotive industry directs unstable minds toward such thinking. Meanwhile, another group on the other side experiences driving as an adrenaline rush.

To be fair, there are very few fatalities going city speeds in manual-driving cars either. Also, manual miles are about 10,000x more. Other metrics are better for city comparisons.

And we have a 200 million idiots here..

Exactly! It literally will save millions of lives as 1.15 million people killed in car accidents due to human errors

Great start, but let's be honest, it's a small and highly guarded rollout, so not very representative of general driving

Crossing the street in Austin the other day and a human driver ran a red light and almost hit me. We seriously need to change public perception of automous cars.

I get what you’re saying and I think self-driving car progress should continue, but the flip side also doesn’t speak quite so badly of the human drivers that encounter automated vehicle freeze ups in the middle of an intersection.
