"I have experienced first-hand how an education system can really fail an individual" "I really really did my best to good in school because this degree is my ticket out of poverty. "...but by the time we reached the second year, I didn't have any practical knowledge that could use to even do some freelance work. Meet one of our partners!👋 Karaalo Secondary School 🏫 Karaalo Secondary School is located in the Yeka sub-city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia🇪🇹. As of 2022, the school had a total of 134 teachers, 50 supportive staff members, and an enrollment of 3100 students. Around 11% of the students🧑‍🎓 waiting for admission to DirectEd’s main boot camp are from this school and from our visit to the school, we were able to see that the school faces challenges in setting up well-equipped laboratories🔬 due to insufficient classrooms and resource constraints. Ever wondered what actually happens when one goes to Ethiopia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding? After nearly 9 months of preparation and conversations led by Etihopia lead @fa6ab, our CEO @SimonSallstrom met and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the President of Kotebe University of Education in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 🇪🇹 back in December 2022. The MOU states the two parties' intention to work together to develop and launch a highly scalable, evidence-based and cost-effective coding programme. The president explained how many international organisations come to Ethiopia for partnerships, sign MOUs and then disappear. 10 months later, it is clear that DirectEd is the exception. In spite of ongoing conflicts and instability in the country, we pushed through and delivered on what was promised. In August, we completed the first Ethiopian pilot Intro Course. We are on track to start the Bootcamp in late November. However, for this bootcamp to succeed, our students need access to resources - laptops, wifi and stipends to pay for data bundles. They lived so peacefully under the rule of Kanyi, their just and selfless leader who served them with integrity. But this so-called peace was soon to be shaken by the abrupt emergence of the Kimba lions. The leader of the Kimba lions was none to be compared with; his tall masculine body as tall as a sycamore tree. His bulging muscles made him look outstanding among all the other Kimba lions. After conquering the Sangoans in a blood shed fight, he took full control of the Sangoan lions and the neighboring communities. The pride he had in his victory made him rule with an iron fist, but this was after torturing and killing Kanyi, their leader. Under the oppressive rule of Mufasa, the leader of the Kimba, the Sangoans sought refuge under an upcoming warrior, by the name Theolas. Theolas assembled all the skillful warriors and came up with a devious plan to overthrow and kill Mufasa. This was not an easy task due to the large number of guards at Mufasa's palace. However, Theolas and his group of warriors were able to overthrow Mufasa and his people, killing him and driving all the Kimba people out of the Sangoa village. After the victory of Theolas, he was crowned leader of the Sangoans and ruled them just as his father Kanyi did, just and selfless.
