AlIMS, New Delhi successfully performed its second successful dual kidney transplant, using both kidneys from a 70-year-old deceased donor to save a 56-year-old woman with end-stage kidney disease on 28th July 2026.
Flown in by an Army helicopter from Command Hospital, Chandimandir, Chandigarh, the kidneys were preserved for nearly 12 hours yet began functioning immediately after surgery. The recipient recovered without complications and was discharged in 10 days with normal kidney function.
Led by Prof. Asuri Krishna, with support from Prof. D Bhowmik, Prof. Sandeep Mahajan, and Prof. Vimi Rewari, this case shows how marginal donors (aged 60+ or with hypertension/ diabetes) can help address India's kidney shortage for transplantation.
The organ retrieval, transport and transplantation were coordinated by ORBO, AIIMS.

This is horrifying.
Dr Vivek Jangra, HCMS Fatehabad, an in-service General Surgery resident at ESIC Faridabad, reportedly developed an INTRACRANIAL BLEED amid prolonged working hours and extreme stress.
Despite radiology and neurosurgery facilities reportedly being available at ESIC, his colleagues allege he received no adequate care from the institution.
His condition worsened to QUADRIPLEGIA.
He had to be shifted in a PRIVATE AMBULANCE to a PRIVATE HOSPITAL, where he underwent surgery.
He is now INTUBATED and ON VENTILATOR SUPPORT.
If these allegations are accurate, this demands an immediate investigation.
