In this cosy Goblin mining game, you can collect power-ups through your run to make exploring and finding the next floor easier! For example, expand your view with the eyeglass so you can see the exit even sooner. 👀 Make sure to check out Gobble Inn, coming to Kickstarter soon! 💚 #cozygames #indiegame #gamedev

Here's part 2 of my mini-series on memory management. It looks specifically at memory paging, linear allocators, and how different layouts of the same data can significantly effect physical use. youtu.be/7mYWbTgEGb8

After years of working on Fat Goblins, I can finally properly announce it: Fat Goblins releases November 12th!!! It’s surreal to finally have a date. Thank you to everyone who’s played, backed, shared, or followed the game along the way. See you in 16v16 on November 12th!

Unpopular opinion: AI companies are pushing society to accept an unacceptable level of risk for a non-essential technology.

An important idea that often isn't taught explicitly these days is the "engineering mindset". It's a set of techniques for approaching a problem you don't (yet) know how to solve. Put simply: break the problem into two simpler tasks. Don't know how to solve those? Do it again.

Hey, happy to announce that the RAD Debugger is now available for Linux (in alpha). It is early and preliminary! Expect random weirdnesses *for sure*, but it is ready to be played with! github.com/EpicGames/raddebu…

"Personalized" art is just pornography, a product aimed at satisfying a base need. Actual art is the opposite of personalized: its beauty lies precisely in that it is the product of another mind, which is why it can be surprising, even revelatory.
I am not joking when I say this. Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over. AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago. Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

I feel this daily at work. The difference in collaboration today to just a few years ago is crazy. So much goes unsaid but is understood. The more difficult part becomes onboarding but even that is a oot easier than it used to be.
When a game studio ships a solid game, it creates TWO valuable products: 1. A solid game. 2. The team that spent years learning how to work together make a game. Because Western studios keep disbanding #2 while development cycles get longer; we will inevitably see less of #1.

There's this excuse among indie devs who use AI-generated assets - "I don't have money for artist, and I can't do art, what do you want me to do?" Do what you want, but good games that made with actual love and craft are coming out every day. Why would I buy your game? You see, unlike productivity software that fulfills some necessity, games are here purely for the soul, and there is no shortage.

Not only I am tired of these wild AI speculations of impeding doom from self important people: I resent them. I actively resent people proposing to crash the economy or proposing authoritarian control over my life and other people's lives with idiotic and dangerous ideas like chip control or bans or tracking researchers. Every idiot in history who's taken the approach of "the ends justify the means" to solve an imaginary future disaster created the very disaster they wanted to stop. See Population Bomb leading to the one child policy and Communism leading to Mao's mass famines and Fascism leading to the death of tens of millions of people and war. These solutions are evil and worse than any disease that they propose to solve. It you believe you can actually predict the end of the world then you are as insane as the Heaven's Gate cult that killed themselves in the 90s thinking UFOs were coming to transcend them. Not only should we not take your policies and fear mongering seriously, we should actively throw out any and all of your proposed solutions because they come from a place of delusion. I don't give a shit that you work in the industry or think you saw something or that you want to virtue signal on X. You are actively contributing to a horrible future based on baseless speculation that has no grounding in reality. Don't confuse expertise in a domain with ability to predict impact of that domain or frankly to make predictions a decade out better than a dart throwing monkey. They are orthagonal skills. How's Hinton's "we don't need to train Radiologists anymore" working out? How did the Population Bomb work out? The global cooling second ice age? Peak oil? Just because someone is a bridge engineer does not mean they can predict the impact of bridges on society or that they have any actually useful insight at all on the complex, ever changing system called life. There are people dying in wars right now. Children starving. Homelessness. Dictatorships. In short, real problems. And we're supposed to drop everything to stop a made up problem in your head? Pound sand. We don't care. And we are not going to remake society based on you scary monsters under the bed delusion.

i just dont see this I feel like we are making the same mistake of the 1999s internet that everyone will have their own webpage. a very large amount of people don't want to spend time crafting thoughts even if it is in english for a computer. Let alone, study enough to be able to understand the insane number of trade offs and why building something one way vs another is important. Just seems like dorking got wider by some % (20? 10? not sure)

Previously, you could get more work done than 99% of programmers if you actually coded while they wasted time arguing about the best Web framework and today you can get more work done than 99% of programmers if you actually code while they argue about the best LLM model.
