Thrash was already dying btw. Cowboys from hell was a mix of thrash and what would become groove. Thrash really died when metallica put out the black album and even more when megadeth put out countdown. Both are great records but it really took thrash out imo.
As Pantera are all over the timeline, I just wanna say that all the dumbfucks that complain about grunge killing the 80s need to realise it was Pantera that killed thrash with their boring downtuned nonsense and made all thrash and some death metal bands follow suit
