Closing weekend @TheNYRA @Saratoga1863 used to mean Woodward weekend. No Woodward (anywhere) this year, but can't forget Rachel Alexandra raising "the rafters here at the Spa!"

She is the greatest racehorse I have ever seen, bar none. A 3 yo filly campaign for the ages.

One of those seasons where it's impossible to think it can ever even be attempted to happen again let alone actually happen

I always liked Calvin Borel on horses I bet. He was superb with front-runners and he was also not "afraid of the wood" and would go into gaps other people would not.

His ride on Atta Boy Roy in 2010 on @kentuckyderby day @churchilldowns was insane.

She couldn’t win a race as a 4 year old so had to retire. Never one a breeders cup race . Trying winning the derby as a filly like winning colors did. Great horses are great from when they step on the track to when they retire.

She won the fleur de lis at four

Thx for posting. Haven’t seen this 1 in yrs. Classic. Rachel was a great 1. After that 22 4/5s opening 1/4 w a great front runner in Da Tara everyone at 2nd floor simulcast at Churchill was yelling she done… wrong 😂🤣😂

That Woodward call is one of those pieces of race audio that permanently attaches itself to a meeting. Closing weekend can change shape; the old soundtrack still turns up.

A great performance, but she was never the same afterwards. Lucky that racing didn’t have another Ruffian situation on its hands.

Taking a break after today, liked the 31 to 1 ten horse 🐎 and then didn't use him. Maybe opening day at Belmont.

I was there and atest to the foundation shaking noise during that stretch run. I am really hopeful they bring the Woodward back but move it to the spring on Wood Memorial Day. Maybe even create a new Handicapping or Older Horse Triple Crown of sorts (call it whatever you want) that would be the Woodward, Whitney, and JCGC.

Was sitting in the clubhouse at the 1/16 pole for that race. One of the greatest races I’ve ever witnessed in person. The rafters really were shaking and I’m not exaggerating. Well, maybe just a very little but mostly accurate.
