1. There are several studies that show the potential for SARS-CoV-2 infection to activate latent TB. At the very least, this should be taken into consideration when attempting to determine why TB rates have risen to record levels.
Global tuberculosis rates reach record levels, WHO warns. Seven and a half million new infections were diagnosed in 2022 – the highest ever recorded by the UN agency. Read more below ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/global-healt…

Very excited to be at the helm of the AI for Science initiative at ByteDance Research. Our unwavering commitment to reshaping the scientific discovery landscape using AI is a journey to watch. Today, we release CryoStar, a state-of-the-art open-source tool for Cryo-EM heterogeneous reconstruction. It's the epitome of innovation in merging AI with the world of structural biology. Project: bytedance.github.io/cryostar… Code: github.com/bytedance/cryosta… Paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Join us on this remarkable journey of exploration, from AI breakthroughs to groundbreaking discoveries in science. Stay connected, as more models and open-sourced tools are on the horizon!
1/ Very excited to present cryoSTAR, a novel approach for continuous heterogeneity in SPA cryo-EM. In brief, cryoSTAR leverages the prior knowledge from a user-given atomic model to better find dynamics in the final reconstruction. bytedance.github.io/cryostar… biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Having founded an Ai drug-discovery 💻🧬company before coming to Parliament I have seen for myself how Ai has the ability to transform healthcare by massively accelerating our ability to: 🩻diagnose earlier 🧑🏽‍⚕️treat smarter 🌇prevent disease 🧬discover new cures That’s why …
AI could solve problems we once thought beyond us. Today @Moorfields, I saw how they’re using AI to predict heart attacks and strokes. We’re investing a further £100m to accelerate the use of AI in healthcare, supporting breakthroughs for previously incurable diseases.

Stanford’s culture of silence is impressively intense. It partly stems from a longtime dearth of investigative/accountability journalism — people just aren’t used to being asked hard questions, nor do they see the value in them. I butt up against this constantly.
After FTX sued Sam Bankman-Fried's parents, both of whom are Stanford Law School professors, I contacted every faculty member at the school for their reaction. Fewer than a dozen replied, and of those who did, only three were willing to go on the record. npr.org/2023/10/02/120076416…

With M.S. Swaminathan’s passing, we have lost a great scientist. There are many scientists whose life spans roles as researchers, institution-builders, technocrats, policy-makers, and humanists. Swaminathan is unique in doing all of these roles superbly and with élan.
