I don’t normally comment on this stuff but I feel like for once I have something I want to share.
This video points out the delicate spot VRC is in as a platform that hosts both children and adults, and to remove one or the other outright would be almost a kill shot to the platform.
I will be a speaking strictly on the business side of things, and for transparency’s sake it’s important I mention I am a group leader appointed by VRC staff. Furthermore this is my individual opinion and in no way reflects the VRC development team’s opinions or values.
We’ve seen them implement even this year more attempts to fix this issue. Age gated instances were the first step, but a lot of people who complain about children on the platform also complained about needing to give their ID to help ‘solve’ some of the issue. If you’re not going to use the tools given to you by the devs ( for what ever reason I’m not going to judge if you have trust issues with security) you can’t also in turn rightfully turn around and be mad when children have access to your lobby because you didn’t age restrict it.
I think people also need to understand the development pipeline for a product like VRC is not something with a quick turn around. At any given time there are multiple features, events and bug fixes being worked on and a large scope of work laid out for a roadmap for the next year or so. So ideas end up starting at one end of the pipeline and going through detailed processes of implementation, and testing, and sometimes in testing they are sent back to the drawing board. Can they bump things to the front? Absolutely- but it doesn’t change the fact they still need time to develop, test and ensure it’s ready for the public.
VRC is not a perfect game, I’ve been vocal about it before and continue to be if I need to speak up. However I think there’s just an over all lack of public knowledge on how ideas or solutions get from point A to B with development we just need to consider and remember. There is a good chance even more ideas to solve this issue are in the pipeline and we just haven’t sent them yet. There are also proper avenues to suggest ideas and changes like the canny and the discord - professionally. Just because you don’t get an instant response doesn’t mean they’re not listening, as I indicated there is a process for these things.
As stated above I have no statement on the other contents of the video, I simply wanted to educate and remind people that there’s a good chance we will be seeing more safety features in the future.
