The Cornell 7 case has brought the thorny subject of consent law and 'voluntary intoxication' screaming into the spotlight Dr Michael Naughton of @EmpowerInnocent and @BristolUniLaw saw it coming, with the help of my own case, some months ago: criticalsocialtheory.com/wp-… (p75)
She simultaneously claims that she was so drunk that she's not responsible for consenting to an orgy, AND that her own recollections of the night are more reliable than the men who she claims were more sober than her. Totally incoherent. And through all of this, there is no evidence or even accusation of any force or threats being used against her. She was there because she wanted to be. Regretting it after the fact doesn't change that. This whole case is a sham.

Dr Michael Naughton at @EmpowerInnocent and I are currently challenging the @CPSUK on just this question, Governor Hochul But our point is that two people being equally voluntarily intoxicated should not be a basis for a sexual assault charge @FACTukorg
Choosing to have a drink is not consent, and it’s never a license for sexual assault. New York law should reflect that. I support closing the voluntary intoxication loophole and will work with the Legislature to get it done.
Community note
There is no law in New York saying choosing to drink means consenting to sex. Current New York law says voluntary intoxication does not invalidate an individual's ability to give consent, as it does not meet the state's standard of "mentally incapacitated". nysenate.gov/legislation/la… nysenate.gov/legislation/la…

This is a few years old but if you haven't yet watched it you really should. youtube.com/watch?v=eh8tSOXz… If the people running the judiciary, and indeed the entire establishment, had even half the common sense and integrity of Dr Michael Naughton the justice system and the country would not be in the mess it is. Does this explain why the country is in such a mess? I believe it does... "...people in this law school have said to me, Michael, we don't really support what you do because we're training people to be lawyers... what you're doing is about morality. We don't want them to be moral human beings." @EmpowerInnocent @andyburnham @AlexJJNorris @verabaird @ccrcupdate @DavidDavisMP #JusticeReform
