It's impossible to know exactly what the workplace will look like in the future. What we do know is that the ability to learn, adapt and build new skills will never go out of date. AI is already changing how we learn and work, which is why building confidence with new technologies can open up opportunities, whatever career path you choose. But technical skills alone won't cut it. Kate Hawthorn (Croucher), Director of Consultant Talent at FDM, explains why skills like critical thinking, clear communication and problem-solving will matter just as much. #ALevelResultsDay

Our recent She Lives Tech event, In Her Element, explored what it means to thrive in tech while staying true to yourself. Thank you to the 78 attendees who joined us at our FDM centres in Sydney and Melbourne, and to our incredible consultant panellists for sharing their experiences with such honesty and openness. The discussion covered career pivots, challenges, growth moments and the importance of staying authentic while building a future in tech. Supporting future tech talent goes beyond launching careers. At FDM, we create opportunities for people to connect, learn from real experiences and build confidence in their own potential.

When we talk about careers, we often focus on grades and qualifications, but it's really the skills behind them that open doors. Robyn Tufnell graduated with a degree in Philosophy, Ethics and Religion, and today works as an FDM Consultant in our Change & Transformation Programme. Although her career isn't directly related to what she studied, she uses many of the skills she developed during her degree every day, including critical thinking, communication and problem-solving. A-Level results can feel like they define your future, but careers often take unexpected turns. The skills you develop along the way can take you further than you might think. #ALevelResultsDay

When James received his A-Level results, a career in AI didn't exist. After studying Modern History, a summer job at FDM became a career that took him around the world and eventually into leading the company's AI transformation strategy. As the world of work changes, so do careers. Many of the jobs today's students will do don't even exist yet. That's why developing in-demand skills and continuing to learn matters more than ever. At FDM, we help people develop the skills organisations need today and prepare for the opportunities of tomorrow. #ALevelResultsDay

The path to a great career isn't always obvious from the start. When Sehrish was exploring her options, the traditional university route didn't feel like the right fit. Instead, she chose to join our Apprenticeship Programme, where she gained real-world experience and built valuable skills 🌱 Today, she works in a permanent role at FDM within our Salesforce and IT Support teams. A reminder on A-Level Results Day that there isn't just one way into a successful career. Not sure what comes next? AI investment is growing, but many organisations are still asking the same question: how do we get trusted, measurable value from it? In a controlled proof of concept with MISSION+, FDM Consultants worked as part of a shared squad to test AI-assisted software remediation. The team used AI to support technical debt reduction while maintaining engineer oversight, quality controls, and delivery standards. The result: ✅ 1196 code quality findings removed ✅ Repository rating improved from E to A ✅ Estimated remediation effort reduced from 14 days to around 12 hours FDM gives clients access to adaptable consultants who can join existing teams, understand the business context, and apply technical and AI skills to help address priority delivery challenges.

"If there are no tangible results in revenue, delivery and engagement within 12-14 months, we are probably running a project, not a transformation." AI is changing the way organisations operate, but turning experimentation into lasting business value remains a challenge. In a recent interview with @TechDogs_Inc, FDM's Global Transformation Director, James Tuttiett, shared why successful AI transformation goes beyond technology and how organisations can turn AI experimentation into measurable business impact. 👉 An insightful read for business and technology leaders: bit.ly/4fJL5Hh

It's important for our consultants to stay commercially aware so that they can understand what changes in the market mean for our clients. That's why our Skills Lab Coach at FDM Australia runs a weekly commercial awareness quiz where consultants can explore current events, discuss emerging trends and build the commercial thinking skills needed to succeed in the corporate world. 💡 By developing these skills early, consultants are better equipped to navigate real business challenges and add value from day one.

If AI agents can help build, test, deploy and operate, where do people create the most value? Last week, we hosted Elevate at our London centre for an evening exploring The New Shape of Delivery in the Age of Agents. Joining the panel were our Delivery Director, Bhaavna Popli, Nicole Ruszkowski (Markel International), Ria Tonking (Compare the Market), and Madhura C. (Elliptic), who discussed how delivery roles are evolving in an increasingly AI-enabled world. Some key takeaways: 💡 As agents take on more of the execution, human judgement becomes even more important. 💡 The value of delivery is shifting from managing activity to driving outcomes. 💡 The best way to prepare for what's next is to get hands-on, stay curious, and keep learning.
