While supporting maritime operations in the Florida Keys during the Alligator Swim event, members of the FSG Maritime Response Squadron and Unmanned Aircraft Systems team identified a female swimmer in distress. Through rapid response and coordinated action, the swimmer was safely recovered, stabilized and turned over to first responders where she was further evaluated. This same day, a second distressed swimmer was rescued with the same operational professionalism as the first.

Florida State Guard Aviation, both manned and unmanned, and Maritime assets have been deployed in support of this mission. FSG will continue to work diligently alongside local, state and federal partners to search for this individual.

The Maritime Response Squadron and Crisis Response Battalion units were honored to stand alongside local partners and community members during the 9/11 Remembrance Event in Madeira Beach, Florida. Together, we reflected on the lives lost, acknowledged the bravery of our first responders, and paid tribute to the strength and resilience that emerged in the wake of tragedy. Our units are grateful for the opportunity to participate and help ensure the legacy of 9/11 is never forgotten.

Today, we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We are inspired by the courage and selflessness of the first responders who ran into the danger on that day and will never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made.

The Florida State Guard Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Team and Maritime Response Squadron (MRS) completed a training exercise focused on the integration of aerial support to bolster maritime operations. Training exercises included live man‑overboard spotting, real-time Digital Terrain Elevation Data depth checks, and other drills focused on promoting situational awareness for MRS crews. Likewise, UAS flight operators leveled up, executing hand launches and recoveries on a moving vessel and navigating tight maritime airspace with precision. Collaboration, both internal and external, fosters stronger operational capabilities and readiness.

During a disaster scenario, the FSG Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) team deploys drone technology to assess the scope and intensity of damages in real time. Having eyes in the sky provides critical information to responders on the ground, resulting in calculated response efforts.

FSG Aviation completed its Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET) this July, giving our flight crews real, hands‑on experience in safely escaping an aircraft in the water. From full‑gear swims to underwater breathing drills and inverted escape simulations, our pilots, tactical officers, and maintenance leaders trained through every step of an overwater ditching scenario. Florida is surrounded by water; preparation isn’t optional. It’s mission‑critical.

While the FSG Maritime Response Squadron supported public safety operations on the water, our Crisis Response Battalion (CRB) worked diligently behind the scenes, assisting with logistical functions to ensure the 2026 FIFA World Cup ran smoothly and safely. During the event, CRB supported the @ftlauderdalepd with public safety and traffic control functions as they hosted 10 countries for training.

The Florida State Guard is here to serve Florida's communities. Members from the Crisis Response Battalion and Aviation Response Squadron recently supported public safety and community partners in Clewiston, Florida during their 4th of July parade. On the ground, FSG assisted law enforcement with functions such as traffic control, and in the air, utilized drones to oversee the event and ensure participants' safety.

During the FIFA World Cup, the Florida State Guard has diligently served Floridians in Miami alongside local, state, and federal public safety partners: FSG Maritime Response Squadron (MRS) crew members observed four swimmers drifting away from their vessel south of the Rickenbacker Causeway. Upon making contact with the swimmers, they advised they were unable to reach their vessel due to strong current and wind conditions. MRS assisted the swimmers onto the FSG Metal Shark and safely transported them back to their vessel. MRS observed a large vessel attempting to approach Picnic Island to pick up two adults and two children who were onshore but was unable to do so safely due to strong wind and currents. MRS assisted the adults and children aboard the FSG Metal Shark and safely transported them back to their vessel. A call was received by law enforcement reporting a medical emergency involving an individual with a severe chest laceration at Boca Chita Key. MRS traveled to the scene alongside first responders, and upon arrival, discovered the individual had been transferred by air for medical evaluation. A second victim who was present and suffered a minor foot laceration was treated by first responders for their injuries and was escorted from Boca Chita Key to the Stiltsville area by MRS. Through vigilance, partnership and service, the Florida State Guard is committed to protecting Floridians both during the FIFA World Cup and beyond.
