We spent years trying to make NFTs useful.
We forgot to keep them fun.
I was one of the loudest voices for utility. External revenue, real world value, something behind the art. I backed it with action: wine first, RWA after.
Almost nobody showed up.
The reason wasn't the product. It was the room.
And yes, Bored Ape killed web3, because with their amazing and well deserved success they sold the idea of magic internet money to normies, and the room filled with people chasing it. Marketplaces leaned in: collection wide WETH offers, Blur, every tool built to make exiting faster than belonging.
Collectors became traders. Nobody wanted a cartoon pfp anymore. The jokes stopped.
The last two months at
@NoncoDucks reminded me what we lost. I'm shipping code I'm proud of. Holders are building characters, sending them on trips, competing on a runway, and laughing with the same people they met in 2021.
No yield. No roadmap of promises. Just a game worth playing with friends.
Turns out that was the utility all along.
