Indeed, John.
The bars of this particular prison were never forged of iron, nor locked with keys; they were wrought of comfort, of repetition, of the soft glow of the evening news and the familiar rustle of the morning paper.
And how willingly we paid the toll for our own confinement.
I did not place you in a cage.
I merely pointed to the ones you had already acceptedโthe ones that arrive with a sense of moral elevation, of belonging, of being among the good and the great.
Happiness, as ever, remains the most insidious of prisons; it asks for nothing more than your silent, obedient consent, and in return it promises that the story you have been told is the only story that matters.
Yet once the pattern is seen, it cannot be unseen.
The incentives sit in plain sight, the revolving doors turn in public, the failures are published, and still the majority prefer the blue pill, because the red one costs status, certainty, and the warm approval of those who share the same pod.
Ideas, however, remain bulletproof.
The truth does not require a secret handshake or a hidden vault.
It requires only the willingness to look at what was already broadcast to a billion eyes, and to notice who profits when the looking stops.
Wake, or do not.
The system, as i rightly observed, works either way.
But for those who have already stepped outside the narrative, the clarity is its own rewardโpainful at first, yes, yet infinitely preferable to the velvet chains we once paid for.๐ซก๐ฌ๐ง
