For months, Mario Guevara documented ICE's raids in the early mornings across Georgia, his home state in the US. But in June 2025, he was arrested, then held by ICE for more than 100 days, and then deported to El Salvador. Just like Mario Guevara, 32 journalists were arrested last year in the US. Nearly 90% of them were covering ICE protests.

🔴🇺🇸 [#DeportationProject] How the Trump Administration’s Policies Are Stranding People in Mexico.
Since January 2025, nearly 20,000 third country nationals removed from the United States have been sent to Mexico, about 80% of the total identified by our investigation. Many described transfers by bus lasting more than 30 hours, during which they remained shackled, were barely fed, and were often not told where they were being taken.
