Interpreter Needed For Four In Rape Of Teen Girl In Dublin
Four teenage boys charged with sexual offences against a teenage girl in south Dublin required an interpreter when they appeared in court this week. The youths, aged 15 and 16, were before Judge Brendan Toale at Dublin Children’s Court yesterday afternoon.
They face charges relating to an alleged incident in February 2025 that was reportedly captured on video. Two of the boys are accused of rape and sexual assault. A third faces a charge of attempted sexual assault, and the fourth is charged with possession of child pornography relating to a video thumbnail.
A fifth suspect, related to one of the four, has yet to be charged.
The four defendants and members of their families were assisted by an interpreter throughout the hearing. The court was told that one of the teenagers’ identity cards had been issued in an Eastern European country.
All four were ordered to surrender their passports and travel documents as part of their bail conditions. They were granted bail on conditions that include residing at specified addresses, remaining contactable at all times, and having no contact with the alleged victim or witnesses.
The judge confirmed that one of the boys could continue attending school. None of the four was legally represented at the hearing because of ongoing industrial action by solicitors over legal-aid reforms. The case is expected to proceed toward the Central Criminal Court for the rape charges and is due to resume in November. The accused and the complainant remain entitled to anonymity.
