Industrial-Grade Manufacturing Solution in a Box Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

San Diego, CA
What if the factory floor can move to the frontlines? The result: faster production, lower costs, and less expensive systems sidelined due to missing parts. Firestorm’s xCell moves industrial-grade manufacturing capabilities forward, giving warfighters the right to repair and iterate critical technologies. Not only can it produce low-cost UAVs in hours, it can print repair parts to legacy systems that would otherwise be inoperable for months.

BREAKING: The U.S. military is now 3D printing attack helicopter parts at sea. @Firestorm_Labs successfully designed and manufactured a critical droop stop aboard the USS Essex after rough seas put the helicopter’s rotor system at risk. This points to a broader potential shift in the DoW supply chain, with sustainment moving closer to the point of need. Systems like xCell put additive manufacturing in a shipping container, giving units the ability to produce parts forward and react to changing conditions without waiting on the traditional supply chain.

Happy Firestorm Day to all who celebrate🔥 One year ago, on the day of our new HQ ribbon-cutting, the City of San Diego officially proclaimed September 15th as Firestorm Labs Day. We're honored to contribute to the San Diego tech ecosystem by building capability that supports the warfighters. Thank you @MayorToddGloria and everyone who has supported our journey.

During xCell’s two-week deployment at sea, Firestorm designed and manufactured a critical component on-demand for an attack helicopter: a droop stop that helps protect the aircraft’s main rotor and blades from damage. While these helicopters are routinely transported by ship, they had never operated from a Navy deck with their rotors mounted. During this deployment, they did so in some of the heaviest seas off Southern California in five years, exposing the rotor system to constant waves, wind, and deck movement. The sailors and marines on the ship turned to Firestorm’s xCell to print a component where and when it was needed, preventing potentially millions of dollars of damage. That’s the power of expeditionary manufacturing: keeping critical systems in the fight instead of waiting months for repair parts to arrive. This was conducted aboard the USS Essex and facilitated by @NPS_Monterey's PIA partner FLEETWERX.

Firestorm was thankful for the opportunity to showcase our expeditionary manufacturing capabilities and mission-adaptable UAS to @ASWCTDoddFather at Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) 26-3. This tier 1 experimentation event focused on contested logistics, a problem Firestorm's xCell mobile microfactory was designed to solve. Building attritable UAS is only one component of a larger ecosystem. Being able to self-sustain repair parts to mission-critical systems at the edge is what turns capability into sustained readiness. Thank you the Office Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering for the opportunity. #OUSWRE

Nothing beats seeing capabilities tested against real conditions with operators in the loop - and that's exactly what happened at T-REX 26-3 this week. This is how we get the best tech to the warfighter faster. Insomnia adversariis nostris

Contested logistics has become a top priority for the @DeptofWar to solve. The U.S. is rethinking how it delivers the people, equipment, and supplies needed to fight in contested environments. Firestorm’s solution combines mission-adaptable systems with production power at the edge. Expeditionary manufacturing enables operators to self-sustain their systems and supplies, instead of waiting months on supply chains.

Firestorm’s factory-in-a-box was originally designed in response to the demand to produce attritable mass closer to the point of need. Along the way, we discovered that the real demand is for repair parts.   Contested logistics leave operators unable to rely on resupply shipments to repair their systems. When a multi-million-dollar system is inoperable due to a missing part, warfighters don’t have the luxury of time to wait for that part to be shipped in. Giving end-users the ability to produce and self-sustain at the edge saves costs, time, and resources.   Our xCell mobile microfactory proved its ability to produce drones and critical components in hours—aboard a ship and in rough sea conditions. It’s a real-world example of why expeditionary manufacturing matters: when supply chains are constrained, the factory needs to move closer to the point of need.   Thank you @defense_news for covering our recent maritime deployment on the USS Essex. na2.hubs.ly/H07hS4L0

The @DeptofWar's Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) program is built to transition technology from the lab to the warfighter RAPIDLY. To date, APFIT has transitioned 100+ technologies to operational use, with $2+ billion awarded to small businesses and non-traditional innovators, reaching companies in 30+ states. At the recent APFIT on the Hill event, we put the program's impact on full display, proving to leaders that the Department is actively delivering the tools our warfighters need to dominate.

“While our nation was focused on countering violent extremists for two decades, our competitors focused on matching our way of war.” - General Charles Q. Brown Jr.   The U.S. needs to field millions of attritable systems to keep up with China, but its output today is measured in thousands.   Firestorm’s xCell microfactory is a major piece of the puzzle that will strengthen the defense industrial base. #WinThePacific

Firestorm was honored to host @RepMcCormick at our HQ this week. At Firestorm, we don't just build drones. We build the manufacturing infrastructure that keeps the drones flying and sustains critical missions. That distinction matters more than ever as the United States Department of War rethinks what resilient industrial capacity looks like for the next fight. Thank you, Rep. McCormick, for taking the time to see our mission in action: equip the warfighters with adaptable systems and advanced manufacturing power at the point of need.
