Thank you @GavinNewsom for signing my bill to strengthen California’s ban on youth conversion therapy — psychological torture where a therapist tries to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Conversion therapy has caused incalculable harm to LGBTQ young people over the years. The Supreme Court recently — and ridiculously — ruled that youth conversion therapy can qualify as “free speech,” and SB 934 increases our odds of defending California’s ban in court. We must stick up for kids and ensure they aren’t subjected to this abusive therapy.

Psychological torture is when you affirm a child distress and tell them the only way to be comfortable with themselves or have a fulfilling life is to change their bodies, you clearly have no interest in helping these kids if you continue to use deceptive language to obfuscate what your bill actually does. How can you listen to testimonies from those of us who were harmed as children by pediatric gender interventions and then continue to create bills that punish people for not wanting to subject young people to permanent changes? You weaponize the legitimate conversion practices like electroshock and compare that to normal psychotherapy that tries to understand why a young person might feel distressed about their body. The fact my growth was stunted, puberty blocked and altered with hormones before I ever had a chance to grow up to know myself is conversion therapy. A child or adolescent who hasn't had the opportunity to grow up hasn't figured out their orientation or even been given the time to gain the life experience to understand or accept themselves. By pushing to heteronormatize them by changing their gender from on to the other to better fit in or "pass" you are pushing for conversion therapy @Scott_Wiener. You are assisting in robbing these children of their chance at self discovery. It's absolutely heartless. @GavinNewsom why would you sign something without taking the time to properly understand what you put your name too?
