One reason left wing activists are so annoying is that there’re will some boring academic discussion—like here, about the taxonomy of biological sex—and then they’ll be like “oh so you want to kill intersex people?” And it’s like what? when did we start talking about killing
Replying to @Tyler_A_Harper
I feel like the craziest part of that paragraph is this part where she casually jumps to “maybe you want to kill them”

Finished Lanterns. Really rubbish. But there's a certain poetic irony with a character that is about imagination and creativity, adapted into a TV show completely devoid of both. And yet requires a massive amount of will power to make it to the end.

The Trump Gang is so corrupt.
Kimberly Guilfoyle was preparing for her congressional hearing to become U.S. ambassador to Greece when she reached out to a Trump donor with an urgent request: She needed $100,000 that she said she owed American Express—in a way that wouldn’t leave a paper trail. “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express,” she wrote on Signal, according to messages reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. “Please.” w/@DanaMattioli @drewhinshaw @JoeWSJ wsj.com/politics/policy/guil…

Not only that, these constructs actually say something about the character... and.......... frankly, they're precisely why Guy's milquetoast reaction to John Stewart telling him that he's just gonna keep Hal's ring is insanely bad writing. Guy's actual response -- IN THIS VERY UNIVERSE -- would have been, "Sure ya are, buddy", followed by, well... this. Hal's ring gets pulled out of John's hand and secured in an unbreakable container. John gets slapped into space by a giant middle finger. Guy flies up there to put John's half-frozen body in a green jail and hauls him off to Oa, where he tells the Guardians that John was going to steal the ring and use it with some unauthorized shit made by one of their greatest enemies... all while saying "GFY, junior". Job done.
this 9 second clip has more constructs than the entire 8 hours of Lanterns. i’m not even joking

I'm not sure I've read a story over the past decade that better captures the grifter culture of TrumpWorld better than this one. Detail after amazing detail. Jaw-dropping, and yet none of it is really surprising.
“Honey please I need you to get this done for me.” How Kimberly Guilfoyle pressed a MAGA ally to transfer $100,000 to her Amex account. on.wsj.com/4yMu8mH

You also need to remember — and this is coming from whose last journalism job was assigning and editing true crime for a major network — moms killing kids is *hot* right now. It’s awful, yes, but it’s what people want to read, whether it’s to confirm audience priors or, as with much true crime, to titillate (and anger is as much an arousal as anything). It’s not an accident you’re seeing these stories. People want them, editors assign them, and a trend emerges — real or manufactured — that more of these types of crimes are happening. Crime is way down. Parents killing kids is comparatively rare to, say, gun homicides. Perception is easy to modify, especially when it runs up against preference.
Instead of having pastors in the pulpits telling you which party to vote for, we need churches in the streets sharing the gospel. Evil is on the march in this country and no politician can stop it, only Jesus can.

"Lanterns" writer Tom King on Hal Jordan's murder: "We had a big debate. It was like, 'Does Kerry Kane get punished?' Nothing could punish her more than the fact that she did that thing and she has to live with it. There's no, like, jail isn't worse than that."

This guy is drunk … on power and absolutely despises the Constitution. He is the antithesis of George Washington.

I warned the Trump/MAGA people that their stupid tariff war with Canada was going to hurt a bunch of important states, including Ohio, Minnesota...and Michigan. Here is proof. Trump has caused real damage on the ground here.
Prices are too high and Canada is not our enemy. We need to end the tariff war — now. In the Senate, I’ll bring both parties together to lower costs and put Michigan families first.

Trump openly funnels federal money directly into his own pockets, while Jimmy Carter had to sell his peanut farm to avoid even the *appearance* of person financial benefit from the presidency.
BREAKING WaPo: Trump wants to transform his West Palm Beach golf club into a presidential retreat modeled after Camp David.
The plan calls for a parcel of the private club to be designated a permanent, official sanctuary for foreign leaders and future U.S. presidents. Future presidents would also be offered comped memberships to the Trump club. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

No one should ever get used to these images of a sycophantic WH staff and Cabinet sitting around a deranged president as he fantasizes about being a dictator of America.

Lanterns is a good example of creatives needing to talk less about their creations. I think part of the reason I enjoyed it was that I actively ignored what the writers and directors were saying in interviews. Reading some of it back now, I swear they don't get their own work.

Sure, there's no potential downside to keeping a woman who panics and shoots unarmed men in the head in place as the town sheriff.
