Rep. Sam Liccardo says Congress needs a clear AI threshold before RSI, and the labs still haven’t given it one:
"I'm still working out a set of proposals that I think are technologically implementable. I certainly don't disagree with Greg or with Senator Sanders about the imperative that we not reach the point at which superintelligence exceeds human control."
"The relevant mechanisms need to come into play before we get to RSI, not after. I'm not optimistic about legislation that says we're going to ban this unless we can hear clearly from the safety community at the labs what are the thresholds."
"Frankly, I haven't heard that yet"
"Once we get to RSI, I'm not confident that there's any congressional enactment that's really gonna matter."

Over 100 House Democrats have sent an inquiry to Republican Speaker Mike Johnson to keep Congress in session to pass AI regulations.
Johnson has not responded to the inquiry.

I haven't seen the president articulate anything that remotely resembles a plan.
While AI safety experts and Americans increasingly urge action to confront this conflagration of risk, Congress fiddles and Trump boasts. At least Nero had the decency to stay in town; Speaker Mike Johnson has Congress shutting down for seven weeks before elections.
I’m not making this up; the American people need action, not vacation.
