there is a clear plot imoortance in his loss of the Sharingan.
“Momoshiki getting revenge on Sasuke” is cope
It's important to Momoshiki characterisation that he finally gets his revenge on Sasuke, also it's a simple consequence to marge scame battle that took place. Kakashi losing his Sharingan wasn't important to the story, Naruto and Sasuke losing their arm wasn't important either.

Nothing about losing his Rinnegan made Sasuke less present in the story, he would have kept the exact same role of escaping with Boruto and being sealed by Code with or without the Rinnegan.

It's funny because Buuhan is the correct take. But the reasons people list for it are always the wrong ones.
There is actually a lot of evidence for Kid Buu being the strongest. To the point you really have to be able to argue well to bring it home.
