Elizabeth Glazer is a former law clerk for RBG and federal prosecutor (who handled gang cases), who went on to advise both NY Gov Cuomo and then progressive NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio on public safety. She now runs @VitalCityNYC, a respected urban policy ideas shop that she founded in 2022 and that has a particular focus on public safety issues, and that has the attention of the Mamdani administration. So we asked Liz to join us on the latest Blue City Blues to talk about how left progressive blue city administrations -- like @NYCMayor Mamdani's or @MayorofSeattle Wilson's -- should be creating effective (yet progressive) public safety strategies. We talked all sorts of public safety stuff: the impact of lighting improvements (you'd be surprised!) and other environmental changes, broken windows theory, stop-and-frisk, focused deterrence, violence interruption, precision policing... I learned a lot from this conversation!
