My seven-year-old son woke me up at 6:03 a.m.
He was so excited to tell me about the books he got at the school book fair - they were about rare rocks.
So he took me through the book, page-by-page - using his soft little voice after just waking up, while sipping on a cold glass of milk. He taught me things about rocks I had never heard of and he just cuddled up against me with his blanket and Snoopy. After that, we talked about the day ahead and what he's excited about.
My six-year-old daughter came downstairs at 7 a.m. I had her milk waiting. She sat on the other side of me and just put her head on my shoulder as she took each sip. Quiet. Not much to say to start the day, but an appreciation that daddy was there. Her blonde little hair draped over my shoulder and just quiet cuddles to kick off the morning before the rush to get ready for the bus began.
I will totally miss these days and I'm so damn thankful and blessed to have them in this current season of life.
