Japans tariffs on American goods is 1%. The US has already been charging 4% for anything imported. Trump lied that everyone was charging us out the ass.

The US has always used tariffs. Targeted tariffs have always been a part of governmental policy. What Trump is doing is a disastrous attempt to bring back 1913 glory days - you know, the tax policies that brought about the Great Depression.

I have questions. Why should already overextended American taxpayers be forced to bear skyrocketing consumer prices while Trump fixes trade deficits? The govt caused this problem, so why are we paying the price to fix it? If tariffs create income for the govt, why shouldn’t we get an immediate tax break to offset higher prices? Trump’s so-called “Liberation Day” amounts to a massive tax hike on Americans to fix a problem caused by the US government.
