Here's a great example: when you think you know what you're talking about, but....not so much
"Can you explain to me what tetanus is?"
"Tetanus is a toxin produced by bacteria that causes your muscles to completely contract."
"And you want me to get a vaccine for it?"
"Yes."
"I thought a vaccine protects against viruses?"
"Yes."
"So if it's a toxin from bacteria why are you offering me a vaccine? What's in the vaccine?"
"It's just a small amount of the virus and it allows your body to practice its defense against it."
"But you just said it's not a virus, it's a toxin. So the 'vaccine' has a bit of the toxin in it?"
"Only a small amount."
"Okay but why do I need any amount? Isn't that what the antibiotics are for?"
"Tetanus is scary to get so you should take the vaccine."
"But it's not isolated on its own, right? It's mixed with other viruses. So I can't just get a tetanus shot. I also have to have diptheria and pertussis. I don't make fear based decisions and this is illogical. No thank you. Telling me 'its just a small amount' is the Fallacy of Relative Privation and it's for a toxin that 1 in 150,000 will get when I'm already on antibiotics."
-me, every time they offer me a tetanus shot
