This week’s engagement with Tribal leaders reinforced an important principle: resilient communities are built through listening, partnership, and preparation. The 4th Quarter/IHS Direct Service Tribes Advisory Committee (DSTAC) meeting offered an opportunity to exchange information and highlight resources available to Tribal communities to strengthen preparedness within healthcare systems.

I appreciated the opportunity to visit the Santa Clara Pueblo and meet with tribal leaders and emergency management personnel to learn firsthand about the challenges they face from flooding, wildfires, and other hazards. Tribal leaders were also connected with ASPR’s regional team, ensuring relationships are built now so we are better prepared to work together when an emergency occurs.

As I look back on #911, what truly stands out is the people who responded. The ones who ran toward danger to save their fellow Americans. It is in that spirit of dedication that ASPR continues to respond. We #NeverForget the tragedy of that day, and we always work to honor the memory of those who died by working every day to ensure our nation is never again left unprepared.

September 11 is personal to me. I was there serving alongside fellow responders, and I witnessed the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of people who stepped forward when our country needed them most. At Nambe Pueblo, I visited with tribal leaders and emergency personnel, who shared how wildfire has affected their community and the realities of responding with limited resources. Their firsthand perspective is essential to shaping federal support that reflects the needs of communities on the front lines of emergencies.

National health security depends on being ready at every level. ASPR’s Strategic National Stockpile maintains extraordinary resources for emergencies while helping jurisdictions build their own stockpiles, strengthening local resilience and national response capabilities.

I’m excited to see collaboration at the heart of the work underway at @GradyHealth. By sharing lessons, experience, and expertise across military and civilian medicine, we are strengthening the trauma care capabilities our nation relies on during emergencies.

It was great to see how @ASPRgov investments have strengthened special pathogen readiness at @childrensatl and Emory University Hospital. When patients with Ebola and Andes hantavirus needed specialized care, that sustained investment in training, equipment, and preparedness made it possible.

ASPR PDAS John Knox joined innovators and government partners at the 3rd annual RRPV General Membership Meeting to see firsthand how public-private partnerships make the nation better prepared. @ASPRgov accelerates innovation: making it easier for the right partners, ideas, and technologies to address health security threats. With support from @BARDAgov and facilitated by @ATI_ORG, the Rapid Response Partnership Vehicle (RRPV) lowers barriers to partnership and creates more opportunities to protect the American people.

Thank you to the responders who spent the #Freedom250 Grand Prix taking care of others. With about 150,000 people gathered on a warm summer day in DC, our teams provided public health and medical support and helped hundreds of Americans who needed medical attention. piped.video/Nn-GX-YVqqs

We are launching our new initiative to enhance trauma care readiness. We invite states, consortia of states, tribes, trauma centers, and nonprofits associated with Indian Health Services to apply for these grants aimed at getting the right care to the patient faster.

I opened the Coordinated Overdose Response to Treatment Convening with a clear call to action: we must work together to strengthen our response to substance use disorder in every community. The Medical Reserve Corps has shown the power of community engagement during public health emergencies and has the potential to support communities in overdose response and recovery.

President Trump’s Great American Recovery Initiative recognizes that substance use disorder can’t be solved by healthcare alone. At today’s CORT Convening, we brought partners together across disciplines to build on that foundational principal and advance @POTUS’s vision: save lives, strengthen recovery, restore hope, and build healthier communities.

The strength of the @MRC_ASPR is its volunteers - people ready to use their skills to serve their communities when they are needed most. ASPR is grateful to the MRC volunteers who supported Maui wildfire response and recovery efforts with dedication, compassion, and care.
