As summer has come to an end, we’d like to recognize various members that we were able to support while they were representing the Hamilton Police within our community, as well as nationally in Calgary, and internationally in South Korea.

Congrats to our newest class of Recruits who graduated from the Ontario Police College. A total of 507 Recruits graduated with 20 being from Hamilton. We’ll be welcoming them back for further training before they are assigned Coach Officers and join frontline patrol. Stay safe 🚔

The PAO Board of Directors was proud to meet with over 25 association presidents and executives from across Ontario in St. Catharines, united by our shared commitment to the 33,000 members we serve. This gathering was an important opportunity to hear directly from local leaders about the issues facing their members and to ensure their voices shape our collective priorities. We discussed updates on WSIB’s Mental Health Program of Care and Mental Stress Injury Program, as well as key topics for our Advocacy Day at Queen’s Park. Through open dialogue and a roundtable on bargaining and provincial matters, we reaffirmed that our strength comes from our association's dedication and leadership. By working together, we amplify our members' concerns and aspirations and continue to advance the priorities that matter most to our policing community across Ontario.

Lots going on this summer supporting Waterloo Police Associations’s Charity Golf Tournament, attending the Canadian Association of Police Governance 37th Annual Conference and the Canadian Police Association’s Biennial Meeting, as well as honouring a Victim Services member.

Sgt. Asim Butt was more than a dedicated police officer. He was a friend and colleague who I had the privilege of working alongside for many years. I saw firsthand the compassion, strength and commitment he brought to our community. Behind every badge is a person — a colleague, a friend, a loved one — who may carry burdens we cannot see. No one should ever feel they have to carry those burdens alone. My heart is with Asim’s family, friends and the entire @HamiltonPolice and @HPAHamilton family. Rest easy, my friend. 💙

The OPPA has confirmed with our NPF brothers and sisters that one of their RCMP members has tragically died. This is three police officers in Canada in three days we have lost. Throughout July, Kate Jones organized Move for Roy in honour of her father Roy Jones. He was a Police Officer with Hamilton & died by suicide. This month was the 20th anniversary of his death. It was an honour to support Move for Roy w/ funds going to Suicide Prevention Hamilton.

It was especially meaningful to have Harry DeJong himself on hand to present the awards. Today, the Durham Regional Police Service is mourning a profound loss following a tragic motor vehicle collision near the Ontario Police College involving two Constables in Training (CIT) who were travelling to training. It is with deep sadness that I share that one CIT has lost their life, while the other remains in life-threatening condition. During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need. We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, and we will not be providing any further details at this time. - Chief Peter Moreira
