Heads up Halton. A homeowner caught a woman on a scooter stealing from their property not once but twice in the same night. An accomplice on a thick-tire bike was spotted nearby keeping watch. The suspect went through the front yard, the side of the house, and the backyard, making off with a child's toys and Christmas decor and leaving a pile near the lawn mower and gas can, seemingly planning to return for those too. Halton police are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out shortly after midnight at a vehicle storage yard on Queensway Drive next to the Burlington GO Station. Two vehicles were on fire beside an occupied trailer and one person was able to get out safely. No injuries were reported. Smoke from the fire could be seen for kilometres across Burlington including in the Brant and Fairview area. The investigation remains ongoing

Halton Regional Police reported 6,623 criminal offences in the first half of 2026, a 12 per cent decrease from the same period in 2025. Violent crime fell 18.4 per cent and property crime dropped 11.4 per cent. Among Ontario's 12 largest police services, Halton recorded the lowest violent crime rate, property crime rate, and overall Crime Severity Index in 2025. Auto theft also continued to decline, down from 542 to 509 cases.

Burlington's Highway 403 had an unexpected visitor stuck in a sewer grate last week 🦝 OPP officers blocked the left lane of the ramp linking eastbound Highway 403 with Highway 407 to rescue a raccoon that had gotten itself trapped. The little guy made it out safely and is reportedly back to doing raccoon things.

York Regional Police have charged five people including Pui Yan Lai, 42, of Oakville following Project Ghostwire, a dark web drug trafficking investigation. Police seized more than 5.5 kilograms of fentanyl equal to approximately 48,000 potentially fatal doses, along with meth, cocaine, heroin, MDMA, ketamine, a carbine assault rifle, $200,000 in cryptocurrency, and more than $1 million in proceeds of crime including high-end vehicles and luxury watches. Total drug street value: $3 million.

Halton Regional Police have charged a Brantford man after a complex theft investigation involving an Oakville aerospace company. In early June the company reported the theft of specialized millwright and aerospace equipment and tools. Investigators identified an employee as the suspect after discovering the stolen items had been listed for sale on social media. A search warrant executed June 30 at a Brantford residence led to the recovery of approximately $250,000 in stolen aerospace equipment, over $150,000 in Canadian currency, and several high value designer watches and sunglasses believed to be proceeds of crime. Abhishek Kumar Patel, 30, faces charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and trafficking of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton. The investigation is ongoing.

Charges against Georgetown's Ammad Chaudhary in connection with the 2023 Pearson airport gold heist have been withdrawn by crown prosecutors. Chaudhary was arrested on April 9, 2024, facing one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of allowing a suspect to escape. The charges were dropped exactly two years later on April 9, 2026. Court documents and a letter from his lawyer Ravin Pillay did not state why the charges were withdrawn. Pillay confirmed his client is no longer facing any charges. The 2023 Pearson heist involved 400 kilograms of gold worth more than $20 million and approximately $2.5 million in foreign currency, stolen from a cargo shipment arriving from Zurich, Switzerland on April 17, 2023

Burlington's Canada Celebrates FIFA World Cup 2026 event is this thursday and you do not want to miss it. An Oakville resident is sharing security footage after their cars were broken into overnight in their own driveway near the Lakeshore area. Halton Regional Police have officially opened their new 1 District station at 7930 Hornby Road, situated on the edge of Halton Hills and Milton. The 66,000 square foot facility replaces the current 12 Division Milton building and consolidates all 1 District command and operations into a single location, alongside the existing sub-stations in Georgetown and Acton. The building houses a back-up 9-1-1 and data centre and a full district lock-up. Sustainability features include heat recovery technology and rooftop solar panels, expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 31 per cent while generating 20 to 25 per cent of the building's annual electrical needs through renewable energy. Chief Stephen Tanner called it part of a broader effort to stay ahead of the needs of one of the fastest growing regions in Canada. The facility is not yet open to the public, with a public opening expected this fall.

Milton is getting its first HomeSense, and the opening date is set for August 17. The new store will occupy a 25,826 square foot space in the north wing of Milton Mall at 55 Ontario Street South, right next to RONA+, making it one of the largest additions to the mall in years. The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature both a dedicated exterior entrance facing Ontario Street and an interior entrance from inside the mall. Until now, Milton shoppers looking for HomeSense's selection of discounted home décor, furniture, kitchenware, rugs, lighting, and bedding had to travel to Mississauga, Oakville, or Burlington. The mall reconfigured much of its north wing to make room for the new anchor tenant, joining Winners, Dollarama, Shoppers Drug Mart, and RONA+ at the roughly 300,000 square foot shopping centre.

E-bikes are everywhere on Halton roads this summer, and police are using the moment to remind riders what is actually legal in Ontario. To qualify as a power-assisted bicycle, your e-bike needs working pedals, a motor capped at 500 watts, a top assisted speed of 32 km/h, and a total weight under 120 kilograms. Riders must be at least 16 and wear a helmet, no exceptions. E-bikes are not permitted on major highways, and anything faster, heavier, or throttle-only without functional pedals does not legally count as a bicycle, it falls under motor vehicle rules instead, meaning licensing, registration, and insurance requirements apply. With more e-bikes on the road than ever, knowing which category yours falls into could save you a fine, or worse.

Halton Regional Police say two women have been hospitalized with serious, non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Burlington. The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday near Fairview Street and Drury Lane. The vehicle involved remained on scene. The road was closed for the investigation but has since reopened.

Halton Regional Police have charged Ottawa Police Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman with assault in connection with an incident in Oakville last week. Police say just before 10:30 p.m. on June 12 an alleged dispute related to a crash between two vehicles led to the charge. Lushman was off duty at the time and has been released on an undertaking with conditions. Ottawa Police officials say their Professional Standards Unit has begun its own investigation, though no further details have been provided as the matter is before the courts. Lushman will have no public facing duties while the investigation continues. 3h

A town-wide burn ban is in effect across Halton Hills, effective immediately, due to winds gusting to 40 km/h. The Halton Hills Fire Department's ban prohibits all open-air burning, including fireworks, and applies even to properties with approved burn permits or fireworks permits. Anyone who fails to comply with open-air burning regulations under the Ontario Fire Code and Halton Hills' Open-air Burning Bylaw may be fined.

Milton's former Best Buy location at Thompson Road and Maple Avenue has new signage confirming Iqbal Foods is coming soon. Iqbal Foods is a grocery chain known for halal meats, fresh produce, and a wide range of South Asian and Middle Eastern foods, with existing locations across the GTA including North York, Mississauga, Brampton, and Ajax. No opening date has been confirmed yet.

The Town of Milton will open the outdoor pool at Rotary Park on June 20 🏊 Located at 100 Garden Lane, the facility includes a play pool with spray features and a lap pool. The pool will run on modified hours during opening week: June 20 and 21 from 11:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and June 22 to 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Regular hours begin June 27: Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in August), and Saturday and Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Drop-in aquafit, fun swims, and lane swims are available. Milton's community splash pads are also open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
