It’s only a matter of time before we take casualties on one of our naval ships or a U.S.-contracted vessel, some of which may be carrying U.S. personnel.
The chances of a mass casualty event happening on a ship are much higher than on a land base, because it’s obviously much harder to evacuate sailors from a ship. They’re sitting ducks.
This would be a catastrophic and tragically avoidable loss of our sailors, & certainly wouldn’t get us any closer to achieving our objectives in Iran—whatever those may be at this point.
A more callous perspective, but which seems to be the one that gets a response out of Washington, is that it would be disastrous before the midterms, in that it would force the President to escalate a very unpopular war.
To eliminate this risk, we have to remove our ships & bases from the region. The President can say he ended & won the war ahead of the November midterms. Then, use the potential of unfreezing funds along with measured sanctions relief to incentivize the Iranians to open the SOH.
A U.S.-contracted vessel was hit during an Iranian attack earlier this week, two sources told Fox News.
The incident occurred "around the Strait of Hormuz," and involved four Iranian drones, and at least one missile.
One of the projectiles struck the vessel and caused minor injuries, including smoke inhalation. The injured are being treated in a Gulf country. Some "U.S. personnel" were onboard.
