Funny how the WNBA and its loudest voices love preaching about protecting Black women, equality, sisterhood, and accountability. But where was that SAME ENERGY when Dearica Hamby accused the Las Vegas Aces of PREGNANCY DISCRIMINATION???? Hamby alleged that Becky Hammon questioned her about birth control, challenged her commitment to basketball, and that she was eventually traded because she was PREGNANT! And here’s the kicker: THE WNBA ACTUALLY INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THAT HAMMON VIOLATED WORKPLACE POLICIES! HER PUNISHMENT? A PATHETIC TWO-GAME SUSPENSION! TWO DAMN GAMES!!! Where were the national conversations? Where was the sustained outrage? Where were all the speeches about protecting Black women? And where was A’ja Wilson’s public advocacy for her former teammate? I’m not accusing Wilson of wrongdoing. I’m questioning why the league’s biggest personalities weren’t louder about a scandal involving one of their own! LET’S CALL THIS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: SELECTIVE ACCOUNTABILITY!!!! If this happened under a different coach, with a different organization, would the reaction have been the same???? The lawsuit eventually ended without a public finding of discrimination, but the WNBA’s disciplinary findings were REAL!
