🚨 WE ARE NOT AGAINST BLACK EMPOWERMENT. WE ARE AGAINST ANC BBBEE. ActionSA supports the economic empowerment of Black South Africans and all historically disadvantaged South Africans. What we reject is a BBBEE system that, in ActionSA’s view, has failed to deliver broad-based empowerment and has been captured by politically connected elites and tenderpreneurs. That is why ActionSA will replace BBBEE with Inclusive Economic Empowerment (IEE) through the Inclusive Economic Empowerment Act and establish an Opportunity Fund. Instead of empowering a connected few through compliance, tenders and scorecards, the Fund will direct resources towards entrepreneurship, tertiary education and infrastructure in underserved communities, creating access to opportunity where people actually live. The proposed model would replace the cost of BBBEE compliance with an Opportunity Fund Levy of 5% of company profits, excluding SMMEs, with the Fund independently managed by qualified professionals and protected from political interference. The objective is simple: move from empowerment for the politically connected to empowerment that reaches ordinary South Africans; from equality of outcome to equality of opportunity; and from enriching a few to creating opportunities for millions. 🚨 THE EFF’S CONVENIENT CASE OF POLITICAL AMNESIA Perhaps let me refresh the minds of those suffering from a very convenient case of political amnesia. The City Manager, not the Mayor, has the authority to appoint senior management. During my tenure, the City Manager was appointed by Council through a process involving the multiparty coalition I led and the EFF was right there in that process. Their Caucus Leader sat on the selection panel. So spare us the selective history. The EFF was not a spectator when the City Manager was appointed, and it was certainly not a spectator when General Sibiya was subsequently appointed by the City Manager. You cannot participate in the process, watch the decisions unfold, and then years later manufacture a story that suits your political narrative. If you want to attack ActionSA, kindly bring the facts. If you want to rewrite history, at least check the records first. I will not allow anyone to manufacture fiction and pass it off as the history of a City that once worked under my leadership. Joburg worked. Joined our Johannesburg Regional Secretary, @LeboMokokajhb, at the IEC’s City of Johannesburg LGE 2026 ceremony today. We started with the signing of sample ballots, followed by briefings on election rules, poster by-laws, prohibited conduct, MPLC arrangements and the issuing of candidate certificates. Our music carries our stories. Our traditions carry our identity. Our heritage connects us to those who came before us and gives the next generation something to be proud of. It is a reminder that as we build the future, we must never lose sight of who we are or where we come from. As a proud Tsonga man, I know where I come from.
