British Columbia, Canada
For those unaware, politics in British Columbia, Canada is some of the dirtiest politics in the western world
New Democrats question how Conservatives will follow party constitution — then 2 hours later the NDP ignores its own equity mandate (again) by appointing Eby’s chief of staff as a candidate in Langley. The snap election allows NDP to bypass elements of its constitution. #bcpoli

I can’t think of a policy more destructive for the development industry than this. Forced liquidations into an already illiquid market.
Today in Burnaby I committed to turning more empty condos into homes people can afford. Our housing plan is working. Home prices are falling faster in B.C. than anywhere else in Canada, rents have dropped 26 months in a row, and the speculation and vacancy tax has turned 20,000 empty units into homes. But too many finished condos are still sitting empty or unsold. So we'll raise the speculation and vacancy tax by one point and bring in a new Unsold Condo Tax on finished condos left empty for more than a year, climbing every year they sit. That could unlock up to 5,000 homes for British Columbians. The conservative parties have opposed nearly every measure we've taken on housing. They'd rip up the plan and hand the market back to the speculators. With Trump's trade war driving up costs, we have to keep pushing yours down. That's how we build B.C. strong. 🇨🇦

In B.C if you (Canadians too) own a second property - recreational for example - and you don't rent it out - the BC NDP adds an additional annual tax on you called the speculation and vacancy tax (even though you are not "speculating" - Eby want to increase this as well.
NEW - @Dave_Eby says a re-elected NDP gov would create a new Unsold Condo Tax on finished condos left empty for more than a year. Starting at 2 per cent, increasing 1% every year left vacant. Also increase the speculation tax a 1% on both Cdn and foreign owners.

He just proposed an empty condo tax to force developers to liquid their unsold inventory or face a tax, right into a weakening economy and rising interest rates David Eby’s goal is to bankrupt the private sector and province. Who is advising this stupidity
Developers are sitting on thousands of finished condos while families can't find a home they can afford. I'm in Burnaby at 10 a.m. PT with the plan to turn them into homes, and the choice in front of us this election. Join me: piped.video/live/A7dEy3TuGxg

"If you don't sell these units in the next year we will impose a tax on you" Not sure how taxing the builder because no one is buying the product will help.
BC NDP leader David Eby vows to implement a 2% "empty condo tax" on units left unsold for over a year: "Just 10 developers have over $2 billion of condos that they refuse to sell at a reasonable price ... You will sell those condos, or you will pay the tax."

Eby backing away from his condo bailout and hard pivots to a 2% "empty condo tax" on developers if new units sit vacant. My jaw is on the floor. Not because he backed away from the condo bailout, but because instead he decided to nuke an industry already teetering on collapse.

New Democrats call news conf to expose problem of Conservatives having interim leader. David Eby called an unnecessary election 48 hours after resignation of KLF, leaving Conservatives no choice but to appoint interim leader. Eby govt has no sense of fair play or shame.

Donald Trump vs Mark Carney trip to the UN. Donald Trump 🇺🇸 > Told Iran's Islamic Regime to its face it could face annihilation without a deal. > Promoted defense of national sovereignty and border control. > Called out Europe's mass-migration model. > Told the UN that there would be “no global government” and “no global taxes”. > Rejected international attempts to establish global rules governing AI. > Called for a major restructuring of the UN itself; return to its core functions and reduce bureaucracy. > Promoted peace between Russia and Ukraine and to work on resolving the conflict. > Signed a new U.S.–Denmark–Greenland Arctic security agreement. Mark Carney 🇨🇦 > Almost put a coherent sentence together. > Agreed to defense cooperation with Jordan. > Advanced relationship with Angola and exports growth which are now worth $200M. > Gave $100M to Palestine. > Gave $82M to Ocean Monitoring and announced his wife as an Ocean Envoy so she has something to do. 😮‍💨
