At 16, Chandler Crews stood 3ft 10in tall due to achondroplasia.
Over the next several years, surgeons repeatedly cut and gradually lengthened the bones in her arms and legs.
By the end, she was roughly 13 inches taller.
Crews began her first leg-lengthening procedure in August 2010.
Surgeons performed controlled cuts in her femurs and tibias, then slowly separated the bone so new bone could grow into the gap.
After months of rehabilitation, she reached around 4ft 5in.
Then she chose to do it again.
Between procedures, Chandler also had her upper arms lengthened by approximately four inches, making everyday tasks like washing her hair and reaching objects significantly easier.
A second round of leg lengthening eventually brought her final height to around 4ft 11in.
She went from needing adaptations to drive and struggling with ordinary public facilities to being able to reach the pedals of a car and navigate daily life more independently.
She grew 13 inches in height and four inches in arm length.
