This is absolutely appalling. The public should not be forced to pay for BBC propaganda and disinformation. Many people watch online material to escape the poisonous lies put out by the controlled media. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

Me too. I don't pay a licence fee, haven't since 2011 completely legally, I was 1 of the pioneers. Do NOT miss the BBC at all & the idea of that spreading to others terrifies them. If they force this through, @NetflixUK, @Twitch, @YouTube & @ufc can forget about my subscriptions
I will cancel every subscription I have before I hand a single penny to the BBC.

Why are Netflix, Youtube and Disney+ staying completely silent on this? If opening a premium app triggers a mandatory £180 state fee, cancellations will skyrocket. These platforms are actively letting BBC cannibalise their paid user base. It makes zero business sense.

Does YouTube or Netflix not get a say in the new licence fee policy? I’m not going to pay it, so I guess I will stop watching YouTube, surely lots of other people will stop watching YouTube, and this will affect their ad revenue …

I don't mind cancelling every single subscription we have. If everyone stuck together & cancelled theirs, these people wouldn't be able to get away with half the crap they do.

I hope that Amazon would respond with an option that still gives us unlimited Prime delivery without the attached video service. Otherwise, I would be cancelling as it would no longer be economic.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes legally to avoid paying the BBC a penny. If they put it on streaming services? Fine, no streaming services. Make it illegal to own a telly without one? Back to books and music. I will not pay!

Can’t see any of these companies being happy about this. I imagine they might seek legal redress when they start losing subscribers.

This is unfair. Why should people who watch Netflix have to fund the BBC? SCRAP the BBC license fee!!

So someone who doesn’t watch BBC, pays for their own Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+ subscription and only watches YouTube on demand could potentially be required to pay another £180 a year? 😭 The government needs to explain why that would be fair to households already paying for their entertainment.

Say you just want to watch Netflix. You pay £96 a year to Netflix to watch their service. Then the government makes it law for you to pay a rival broadcaster £180 a year that you don't watch, so you can legally watch Netflix. Can anyone think of a more crazy economic situation?

So we have to pay the BBC to be able to use completely unrelated online platforms that we already pay for separately? Why on earth wind and fire should we have to do that?

So millions of people could be forced to pay the BBC Licence fee if they watch Netflix, YouTube, Amazon & Disney+ I don’t understand why these streaming services are going along with this as they could end up losing customers. The BBC know they can’t go stream only because nobody would pay to watch it. It’s all one big con

This. I haven't watched traditional TV in years, but apparently my internet connection alone means I now owe the taxman £180 a year for the upkeep of Strictly Come Dancing and Eastenders.
Only the BBC could devise a funding model where the solution to people not watching your programmes is to charge them for watching somebody else's. Under this logic, every time I order a Domino's, I should send Pizza Hut £2.50 to support the future of British pizza.
