As part of the 43rd Foundation Day celebration of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), IMFA’s Sukinda & Mahagiri Mines showcased their environmental management and sustainability initiatives at an exhibition held in Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar. The exhibition model highlighted key practices, including scientific dump stabilisation, efficient Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) operations, and underground backfilling using bottom ash, reflecting our focus on responsible mining, resource conservation and a circular economy. Sunday, September 20th wasn’t a day when our team relaxed!!! I am delighted that with the load being steadily increased in the first furnace at KNR 1 (greenfield project) and stable operations elsewhere, total daily ferro chrome production has crossed 1000 tonnes for the first time. As we continue to expand our capacity at Kalinganagar, we remain focused on scaling production and strengthening our position in the global ferro chrome industry.

Delighted with the first tapping of hot metal today from the first furnace at @IMFALtd’s greenfield project in Kalinganagar (KNR 1). The load will be gradually increased over the next few days, and we expect meaningful quantum of ferro chrome production from September onwards. Congratulations to the team lead by Sureshbabu Chigurupalli and P V Kishore Kumar, and everyone else who has contributed to the project.

I attended FIBAC 2026 last week which was addressed by the RBI Governor Mr Sanjay Malhotra amongst others. Sharing his views on the evolving landscape and in response to my question, Mr Malhotra spoke about the potential for deeper financial cooperation among BRICS nations, particularly around cross-border payments, local currency settlements, digital public infrastructure and CBDCs, especially as India chairs BRICS this year.
