Excellent talks with @SecRubio at Höfði House, the building that housed the Reagan & Gorbachev Summit 40 years ago. We discussed how to strengthen even further security & defense cooperation in the North Atlantic & Arctic, as well as deepen economic cooperation between 🇮🇸 & 🇺🇸.

From today´s Press Conference between 🇮🇸 Foreign Minister @thorgkatrin and 🇺🇸 Secretary of State @SecRubio earlier today. Relations between Iceland and the US are strong.

Toured the Hofdi House, where the 1986 Reykjavik Summit between President Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev took place. The house symbolizes diplomacy’s role in ending the Cold War and defeating communism.

Canada is a close & valued partner for the Nordic & Baltic nations & our meeting at #UNGA81 was important & timely. The security of the North Atlantic, Baltic Sea & Arctic is increasingly interconnected & through NATO & other frameworks we can strengthen our cooperation further.

The people of 🇮🇸 have spoken. The result of the referendum held yesterday means accession talks with the EU will not now move forward. Our close cooperation with the EU & Member States will continue, firmly rooted in the EEA Agreement.

There is a special bond between Iceland & Norway & the passing of His Majesty, King Harald V., is felt deeply in 🇮🇸. He will be fondly remembered for his leadership, commitment & duty towards his nation. We send our sincerest condolences to the Royal Family & to the people of🇳🇴.
