A painful Barner thread (1/4): so the 4th and 1 play that Auburn ran when down 3 in the 4th quarter in Neyland is haunting me and I can’t tell if it’s failure was design or execution. Watch in real time as Tennessee’s Nathan Robinson gets through untouched and dooms the play.
I think Cole Best said they didn’t execute the call. I suppose Golesh’s reasoning for the call was sound, but I don’t know why you don’t just stick with what you’ve done successfully in the past and run the giant QB there.
I think I read that the refs told Golesh they weren’t going to check because they were confident in the spot. I would have called timeout but I suppose you run the risk they don’t even look with a timeout and then you wasted a timeout.
It’s funny how as Auburn fans who have endured the last several years, we (or just me?!) immediately respond to anything negative that happens with unbridled rage
I was just thinking it’s literally a generational bad stretch. Unprecedented for most of us, so it’s hard to know how to react. The broadcast said our 5+ losing season streak is first since the 40s or 50s, right?
We need performance based NIL. Or Base + commission.
A lot of Auburn players would only be making base.
And then put them on a permanent improvement plan.
A couple coaches need that, too.
Auburn HC Alex Golesh said he asked for the spot on the Christian Neptune catch before the fourth-down stop to be looked at, and the officials said that it was the right call and shouldn't be reviewed
Auburn HC Alex Golesh said the decision to run a pitch instead of up the middle on the fourth-down call was a tendency-breaker from what they had shown in that formation over the last few seasons
felt like Tennessee would chase it and they could get hats on hats
didn't work
