We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion. In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding. In the post below, we share more details about our new fund. anthropic.com/news/public-be…

Claude Code Desktop is now so much aware of its own capabilities and how it can work with you, like spinning off subsessions. I think of this almost like a v2, so many small details went into make it great.
We've been working hard on making the Claude Code desktop app great for running lots of sessions side by side. It's now much quicker to start sessions, easier to split work across a few, and you can always see what each of them is doing. Here’s what's new:

Open-source AI is undercutting Big AI's margins. Even amid the rapid scale of AI, open-source models cost far less per token, the basic unit of AI computing. For example, Anthropic’s Fable 5 model was more than 50 times more expensive per token than DeepSeek’s V4 Pro. Other open-source models from Alibaba, Moonshot AI, and Nvidia are also competing at a fraction of the cost of leading proprietary models. As cheaper alternatives improve, proprietary AI companies will face increasing pressure to lower prices. This could potentially squeeze profit margins all as CapEx is surging. Keep watching open-source AI.
We are releasing Ultramarine 1 Flash, a frontier-class model built for knowledge work. It is open-source and achieves similar performance to Fable 5, while being 60x cheaper. It was post-trained by a team of 5 for ~$300k all-in. Available on API now, with weights releasing in 2 weeks.

New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…
