Indiana Pork is excited to be exhibiting at JA JobSpark, helping students explore the many career opportunities connected to pork production and agriculture! 10,000 8th graders from central Indiana are at the Indiana State Fairgrounds exploring different career opportunities, such as advanced manufacturing, health sciences, and technology, through interactive exhibits hosted by local employers. Indiana Pork has pigs on site and the students have loved learning about pig farming! We’re proud to help students learn more about where their interests and skills could take them. Indiana pig farmers are always looking for ways to feed their neighbors! Through our Certified Indiana Bred program, we were able to award $5000 worth of ground pork to Vanderburgh County 4Her Casey Schillinger for her to give to a pantry of her choosing. St Vincent de Paul was the recipient and we are happy to know that nearly 3,000lbs supply protein to nearly 12,000 people!

Indiana Pork was happy to support the Indiana Meat Packers and Processors Association meeting by donating a whole hog for hands-on fabrication demonstrations. These demonstrations give processors the opportunity to see different cuts, techniques, and carcass utilization firsthand while sharing knowledge that helps strengthen Indiana’s meat industry. Partnerships like this connect pig farmers with the people who process and market pork every day, helping ensure we continue producing a high-quality product for consumers while supporting Indiana agriculture from farm to plate. As the @IndyStateFair is winding down, we have to send a huge thanks to the amazing volunteers who worked in our tents serving pork to hungry fairgoers! The Indiana Pork Tents simply couldn’t run without our incredible volunteer groups! From FFA chapters and band boosters to churches, sports teams, ag industry leaders, farmers, and other community organizations, these volunteers show up ready to work, serve great pork, and help make the Fair experience special. We are so appreciative of the time, energy and enthusiasm they bring each year. Their support makes a huge difference and we couldn’t do it without them. Thank you to every volunteer who helped make this year another success! #volunteer

As we are heading into the last weekend of the Indiana State Fair, we have to reflect on the huge success of the Indiana Pork Skillathon series. This summer our intern, Haley Graf, led our Indiana Pork Skillathon series and worked with over 220 youth as they tested their knowledge about the pork industry. During breeding weekend at the Indiana State Fair, the top scorers in Skillathon, who also exhibited a Certified Indiana Bred (CIB) pig, had their name entered into a drawing for a huge prize! Congratulations to Casey Shillinger, winner of the Indiana Pork Skillathon and CIB Grand Prize. Casey's hard work, industry knowledge, and dedication to the pork industry earned her a position in the Top 10 overall Intermediate Skillathon and through the drawing she won the prize package valued at $10,000. The award includes $5,000 in cash and $5,000 worth of ground pork, which will be donated to a local food pantry of Casey's choice through the Hoosier Hogs to Homes program. This unique prize recognizes youth achievement while also helping provide nutritious, high-quality protein to families in need across Indiana. Casey's accomplishment showcases the leadership, innovation, and commitment demonstrated by Indiana's young agricultural leaders. Congratulations, Casey, on this outstanding achievement and for helping us making a positive impact in your community through generosity and service.

Farm bill talks are on pause until September. NPPC's President Rob Brenneman says producers need protection from a state-by-state patchwork, not another barn rebuild. NPPC will keep pushing for a bipartisan bill with a real Prop. 12 fix: nppc.org/news/pork-producers… #FixProp12

Rural Caucus is a bipartisan group of state legislators that meets with stakeholders from agriculture, health care, education, economic development and other sectors that have a major impact on rural Indiana. Rural Caucus gives Indiana agriculture an opportunity to put farmers and industry experts directly in front of lawmakers, share what's happening in rural communities, and help policymakers understand how their decisions affect farmers, agribusinesses and rural Hoosiers. During their meeting today at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, agriculture was the focus and we were happy to provide a lunch of pork burgers to a packed room!
