This is not a vote of confidence in the UK. This is withdrawing bombers that haven’t done much but fly in circles over the North Atlantic every other day.
If there was such a significant threat to the base, we’d see the munitions that litter the airfield collected, and the crews evacuated. Neither of those have happened.
Anyway, Fairford has been empty for most of the past 20 years. Deployments there are only ever temporary. Apart from the U-2. Which is also still there.
