PPP has failed on education for 18 years, four in ten urban kids still out of school, and sure that's not the fault of ordinary Sindhis. So why does Karachi have to keep living under it?
Karachi doesn't vote PPP. It gets 2-6% in most of the city and still decides who teaches here, who runs the colleges, who heads the boards. 56% of lecturer posts in Karachi's govt colleges are empty and that's the education minister's own written reply in the assembly, not some MQM talking point
A Karachi voter has no way to vote out the people running his kid's school. Bringing up a front formed in Hyderabad in 1969 doesn't change that. The province demand was never about Sindhis, it's about Karachi finally getting to hold someone accountable
From my latest opinion piece:
"Sindh has been ruled by the Pakistan Peoples Party without interruption since 2008. Its record has been disappointing, nowhere more so than in education: in Pakistan's most urbanised province, four in ten urban children are still out of school. But the PPP's failures should not be conflated with Sindhis.
The Sindhi-speaking middle class did not emerge because of good governance; it emerged despite difficulties and against the odds. MQM politicians exploit precisely this confusion, misleading their own constituents and pursuing a politics of division and hatred whose roots go back not to the 1970s, as is commonly claimed, but to the end of the 1960s, when the Mohajir Punjabi Pathan Muttahida Mahaz was formed in Hyderabad."
