I think it’s incumbent on the authorities to stop criminals jeopardising lives at sea, even if the potential victims are also criminals. If the authorities systematically and doggedly refuse to do so, others will try. I don’t condone any law breaking by anyone.

Ms Oakeshott, you live in Dubai and are calling the CPS “disgusting” for bringing charges over alleged damage to a boat with a rescuer aboard. Thomas has the right to a fair trial. Do you think the CPS should simply ignore the allegation because you agree with his politics? The law still applies at sea.

Taiwo Atieno, Kenya international — charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, controlling/coercive behaviour and breaches of a non-molestation order: GRANTED BAIL. Different cases, different circumstances — but people are entitled to question the contrast. Remand before trial should be about necessity and risk, not punishment before conviction.
