TNIE Tumbled by Tur
I suppose The New Indian Express is a news company and not an IT Wing or Fan page.
In today’s article, you claim that only 5,000 MT of tur dal was procured at Rs 77.99 per kg in February 2026 (DMK regime) and the remaining 55,000 MT was purchased at an average procurement cost of Rs 109.15 per kg.
However, it must be noted that 3 companies were shortlisted in the February 2026 tender for the supply of 40,000 MT of tur dal in May and June. The split up allocation is as below:
Best Pulses and Foods LLP - 15,000 MT
TATA International Limited - 20,000 MT
C.P. Foods - 5,000 MT
So, as mentioned by you, the ₹77.99/kg procurement was not for 5,000 MT but for the full 40,000 MT covered by this tender.
Where does this ‘February average’ suddenly come from? Is there any supporting documentary evidence for your claim? How much tur dal has the TVK government actually procured? What is the variety of tur dal? Which are the companies supplying?
How has The New Indian Express published such a significant claim based purely on assumptions, without clearly verifying tender types, dates, and quality specifications?
Why the hurry to credit the TVK government with ₹750 crore in savings based purely on assumptions?
What or who is driving this ambiguous, hasty, and baseless narrative?
