There has been another development in the deaths of two Ole Miss students, Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20, who were found dead in separate locations in Oxford, Mississippi, on September 21. On Thursday, the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit searched Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store after investigators say they made a controlled purchase of illegal substances there. They seized more than 500 units of kratom, along with THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected narcotics. Kratom has been illegal to possess, sell or distribute in Oxford since 2019. Two Oxford men, Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, and Islam Mohamed, 18, were arrested and charged with possession of Schedule I controlled substances with intent to distribute. Police also say the owner of the business, Amer Alowdi, 40, had been indicted on narcotics trafficking charges back in 2022 but left the country before he could be prosecuted. What makes this especially concerning is that packaged kratom purchased from a retail store was found during the investigations into both students' deaths. But I want to be careful here because investigators have NOT said kratom caused either death, and they have not said these arrests are directly connected to the deaths. Toxicology results are still pending. This investigation isn't over either. Police say they expect there could be more arrests and charges as they continue looking into the illegal sale of these products around Oxford. Two young men are dead, their families are waiting for answers, and hopefully the toxicology results will tell investigators exactly what happened. Am I the only one questioning the motives behind these men? Does this sound like good old boys from Mississippi run this store?

Watched a grown man lose his shit on a cashier today. She was simply following store policy, and this asshole is talking to her like she’s beneath him. She didn’t make the fucking rule. But she has to worry about her job if she gives it back to him. Well, I don’t work there. I’ve got nothing to lose by opening my mouth, so I stepped in. He backed down real quick. Funny how that works. Plenty of balls when it’s a cashier who has to worry about getting fired. Suddenly reasonable when somebody who doesn’t work there speaks up. She thanked me afterward. The fact that she even needed someone to step in over a store policy is ridiculous. And spare me the “maybe he’s having a bad day” bullshit. Maybe she is too. She still managed to show up and do her job without taking it out on everybody around her. I’m tired of people making excuses for the asshole while expecting the person he’s abusing to smile through it. Buy your shit, say thank you and go home. A name tag isn’t permission to treat someone like garbage.

In 2005, Oneida shut the flatware factory in Sherrill, New York. A town that had made silverware for MORE THAN 100 YEARS was supposed to be finished. Two men refused to let that happen. Their names are Matt Roberts and Greg Owens. Roberts had managed that factory. Owens was another former Oneida manufacturing manager. When the company ended U.S. production, they bought the plant and the equipment and reopened it the NEXT DAY as Sherrill Manufacturing. They did not have a giant rescue fund. They did not have a Hollywood ending waiting. They had a building, some machines, and a workforce that knew how to make forks, knives, and spoons. At first they kept making product for Oneida. Then Oneida pulled the remaining American work and sent it overseas. That should have been the end. It wasn’t. They took government flatware contracts to keep the lights on. In 2010 they filed Chapter 11. They sold unused equipment. They sold space they could no longer fill. They leased back only the part of the factory they could still run. They came out of bankruptcy in 2013. Then they did the thing that saved the company. They built their own brand: Liberty Tabletop. They sold 18/10 stainless flatware straight to customers who wanted tableware MADE IN THE UNITED STATES. Not through a department store that could drop them overnight. Direct. Today Liberty Tabletop is the only company still manufacturing stainless steel flatware in America. Same town. Same trade. U.S. steel. About 70 jobs. They did not bring back 2,000 workers. Nobody did. What they saved was the last line. If you want American-made forks and spoons, this is the factory that still makes them. Support Liberty Tabletop. The crust comes out a bit like cornbread (due to the buttermilk - the recipe tells you how to sub in milk for buttermilk) - the bread is light and fluffy (I sifted the flour) - I also used fresh dill instead of dried - BUT MAKE THIS TODAY!!
